Mark Knight didn't do this for fame, he's made fun of tennis players throwing tantrums before. He drew an exaggerated version of how she looks, how he does in all his cartoons.

No one complains when he draws exaggerated facial features of white people.

He's made caricature of white people before, but has he exaggerated stereotypically white features on a person with other features before?

I know he's Aussie, and that's why he probably has met very few black people. So his ability to discern black faces is probably less than others.

Serena William's lips are big, but on her person they are not the most pronounced feature.

They weren't just big in the comic, they were mammy stereotype big. And it's not because the guy is a racist; that's literally all he sees on her. Is big lips and messy hair. Because that's how certain populations grow up thinking of black people.

And that is pretty much the problem, which everybody else is misconstruing as a deliberate racist comic. He's just ignorant. He doesn't know how to draw black people competently, so he resorted to ugly stereotypes.

Why isn't anybody complaining about his caricatures of white people?
Because he didn't draw them with blonde hair, very wide blue eyes, with sharp aquiline noses.
Because he can draw different white people, but black people basically all look the same to him.

It's kind of amazing to me that people can look at that original cartoon and not immediately recoil from the overt, racial caricature. Like, at best this guy is grossly ignorant about his trade and is too full of himself to listen to what anyone else has to say. At worst, well... it's exactly what it looks like.

I'm all for free speech (in spirit, beyond the 1st amendment) and leniency in judging comedy, but these comics are just trash.

This whole issue is bringing up some questions as to what a caricature is. Some of those questions are going to make people uncomfortable.
