So Serena decided to play dumb, break the rules, disrespect the ref and call him names, throw her racket on the ground like a two-year old might... so it looks like she got exactly what she deserved :)

I mean if you want to completely misconstrue the entire situation, yeah thats what happened.

How am I misconstruing anything? That's literally how it happened. Serena's coach even admitting that they broke the rules, but she didn't have to completely flip out on the ref and act like a spoiled child after it was brought up. Calling him "sexist" was incredibly stupid and baseless. Serena was in her own head, fighting the ref and herself instead of her opponent.

This. I mean, seriously, whether or not she lost her shit, she went down in straight sets. Fuck you Serena for making this all about you & taking the spotlight away from Naomi Osaka, who deserves some credit for playing well.

WTA CEO Confirms bias in officiating against Serena

https://olympics.nbcsports.com/2018/09/10/serena-williams-chair-umpire-us-open-wta/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

Serena Williams argued that a male player would have been treated differently in her U.S. Open final episode Saturday. The WTA agrees.

The WTA believes that there should be no difference in the standards of tolerance provided to the emotions expressed by men vs. women and is committed to working with the sport to ensure that all players are treated the same, WTA CEO Steve Simon said in a statement Sunday. We do not believe that this was done last night.

Among Williams arguments with chair umpire Carlos Ramos was contesting her third code violation, verbal abuse, after she called Ramos a liar and a thief for an earlier violation for her coachs illegal coaching from the stands.

You know how many other men do things that are much worse than that? This is not fair, Williams insisted when talking to tournament referee Brian Earley and WTA supervisor Donna Kelso on the during the final with Naomi Osaka. There are men out here that do a lot worse, but because Im a woman, youre going to take this away from me? That is not right.

Williams coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, said after the match that he was coaching Williams, though he didnt think Williams was looking at him at the time Ramos called the violation. Regardless, Mouratoglou said all coaches break the rule, and it had never been enforced on him before the U.S. Open final.

[Saturday] also brought to the forefront the question of whether different standards are applied to men and women in the officiating of matches, Simon said in the statement. We also think the issue of coaching needs to be addressed and should be allowed across the sport. The WTA supports coaching through its on-court coaching rule, but further review is needed.

Plot twist: The ITF confirm there was no bias:
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/tennis/2018/09/10/serena-williams-itf-backs-umpire-carlos-ramos-us-open-tennis/1257882002/

Some critics accused Ramos of sexism, suggesting he would not have handed out those code violations to a man. The ITF, in its statement, dismissed that.

"Carlos Ramos is one of the most experienced and respected umpires in tennis. Mr. Ramos' decisions were in accordance with the relevant rules and were reaffirmed by the US Open's decision to fine Serena Williams for the three offenses.

"It is understandable that this high profile and regrettable incident should provoke debate. At the same time, it is important to remember that Mr. Ramos undertook his duties as an official according to the relevant rule book and acted at all times with professionalism and integrity."

USTA chief comes out in defense of Williams

We watch the guys do this all the time, theyre badgering the umpire on the changeovers. Nothing happens. Theres no equality. I think there has to be some consistency across the board. These are conversations that will be imposed in the next weeks.

I know what Serena did and her behaviour was not welcome. A line could have been drawn, but when you look at Carlos in this situation, its a judgment call to give that last penalty because she called him a thief. Theyve been called a lot more.

[He could have said]: Hey, were getting out of hand here, lets tone it down. I think he would have [said that to a male player], I think its a bond that they have and they way they communicate, and maybe not understanding they can have that same conversation with the women.

BBC reports actual statistics on penalties, turns out Serena, USTA, and WTA are all full of shit:
s0nicfan posted...
https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/45468290

What do the stats say?

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, was one of 10 women punished for code violations at this year's US Open, while 26 men were fined.

Most of the fines issued were for racquet violations - 14 men and five women.

Three men and three women were penalised for an audible obscenity, five men were fined for time delays, while four men and one woman were penalised for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Williams was one of only two women punished for on-court coaching, alongside Slovakia's Dominika Cibulkova, while no men were penalised for this offence.

Former world number one Williams was the only player punished for verbal abuse, which landed her a $10,000 (7,732) fine - the largest issued at this year's tournament.

Amazing, the United States Tennis Association took the side of the American. Who could have predicted that?

For those that don't follow tennis, it's the job of a national tennis association to advocate for people from their country. You'll see stuff like the French and US associations trading a couple wild cards to get some more Americans to the French Open in exchange for letting some French people the French want in the U.S. Open.

I really don't see what's so hard about that to understand. Has Serena provided evidence that the umpire was sexist or racist? Sounds like she just got emotional that she was losing and threw a toddler tantrum. Imagine white knighting for someone like that... yikes.

I tried to explain this earlier. it's not like MMA or soccer where people are less nationally bias when it comes to competition. but Tennis might as well be looked at as if it's the Olympics because most people are DEFINITELY going for their own country, lol.

Nope, it wouldn't make much sense, yet that would still make more sense, because by posting in the topic you're bringing it back to the front page for more eyes to see. I mean maybe if he had posted just a few minutes after that would be fine because the topic would still be up front, but over three hours? That makes no sense whatsoever.

Sure it does. Now we know he wants the topic to die, regardless of the poor example he's setting.

It's on us for not listening to him.

Yes she did

No she didn't. She was complaining about a point being taken away, not losing the match.

She was in the wrong whether she meant the match or the point/game.
