New joystick and conductive rubber contact strip is the cure.

Are there any good sources for those components left? I have a psp 2000 joystick that's failing.

Once I buy a Turbo Duo RX, I'll need to open it up to make some conversions for American television sets, or I can find a Japanese TV somewhere. As in, produced for use in Japan.

I tried replacing the 72 pin connector on my NES, but it still didn't work after the fact.

I had to open up my classic DS to replace a broken top screen... TWICE, even.

I've opened and tinkered with various consoles from the original PSX to the 360. Just for the fuck of it. I was curious.

Removing a sticker cannot void a warranty because the sticker has nothing to do with the function of the device. Just because the side mirror on my car is broken doesn't void the warranty on the transmission.

Just as you wrote, if I replace the mirror with a part from a competitor then the manufacturer can't void the warranty on the transmission. Same goes for me replacing a bad memory chip in my console. Later the GPU dies but the system is still under warranty. The warranty can't be denied because I did my own work or had a 3rd party replace the memory chip. The manufacture doesn't have to warranty the new memory chip but they're still on the hook for the GPU.

If the manufacturer can determine the that the GPU died because of the new memory chip then it's reasonable to think they're not obligated to fix the GPU for free.

The point remains, the warranty cannot be voided by peeling off a plastic sticker because that doesn't affect the function of the device.

Replaced the pin connector on my NES. That's about it.

Nvidia Shield Portable. The battery on my second Shield Portable completely died (unable to recharge it anymore). I was going to move the battery pack from my first Shield Portable (my first Shield Portable had a cracked screen with the right side of the touchscreen not functioning) to my second Shield but I gave up doing that.

Rather than fixing either of my Nvidia Shield Portables, I bought a GPD XD+ and I'm happy with that.

The only time I've "opened" a console was accessing the expansion bay on my N64 to add the expansion pak.

Had to open my PS2 Slim twice. First time was to clean it out cause the dust was making it overheat even faster than usual, and the second was to fix the lid which wouldn't push down on the back sensor button on its own anymore.

Haven't opened any of my other systems but I probably should clean them out too.

I opened my 360 to clean out all the dust. I couldn't play GTAV because it would cause the system to overheat and freeze.

IMO, that's not really "opening" a console in the terms of the poll question.

Oh, I had forgotten about doing that. I opened the PS2 many times for DREs.

Used to open my fat PS2 to temporarily fix a disc scratching problem. Once I got sick of doing that, I just bought a slim PS2 for super cheap. That one hasn't acted up on me yet.
