It's getting harder to make detailed open world games with the demand of high end graphics. Also this game has to be playable on the PS4 and PC so there's going to be a lot of cut content.

I think I'll probably just get a slim tbh. I'm living in China for the foreseeable future and doubt I'll buy a 4k TV while I'm living here. I'm looking at buying a 32" curved 2k monitor for my PC which I'd also hook the PS4 up to but doubt it'll be worth getting a Pro for.

I don't think the multiplayer shark card adding money to buy new things strategy is going to be pushed anywhere near as hard as it was with GTA 5.

There simply isn't enough material to work with. Sure, they'll be horses, clothes, weapons and probably some sort of hideout or base thing, but everything I can conceptualize is a fraction of what is possible in the GTA universe, if only due to the time period.

I think they have anticipated that this game won't sell as much in shark card type money, so they'll happily not push it as much and help strengthen their brand since those practices are such a target right now. They might even release a proper paid for expansion down the road.

Anyway, I could be wrong about all that, but no it isn't going to bomb. Won't break the release day GTA 5 numbers, but they'll still demonstrate that Rockstar is in a class of their own.

I find it really weird that people seem to think rdr2 can be monetized the same way as gta online. It honestly makes me wonder if they even played it

There is approximately a zero percent chance that this bombs. It'll turn a major profit and probably be the best selling game of the year by a country mile.

That being said, there is also a zero percent chance that it'll be as profitable as GTA5/Online, but that essentially goes without saying.

and iirc, Rockstar started releasing trailers for different aspects of their games with Max Payne 3, where their different aspects were showcased.

like, one would focus on the gameplay, another on the online, and so on.

God of War proved that singleplayer games are still viable in today's triple-A gaming landscape. And it's EA or Activision - I think EA - who have said in the past "singleplayer games are dying, so we're gonna make all of our games multiplayer "experiences"/services to best cater to the dominant gaming trend". I don't think Rockstar has gone out on a similar limb, and don't forget that GTA5 has a fleshed out singleplayer story mode - I don't think that just because GTA Online has done super well, they're going to ditch singleplayer content entirely.

If anything, GTA5 has succeeded because it has a rock-solid singleplayer mode as well as multiplayer mode. Rockstar stands to make a lot of money if they can cater to both areas, and I'm hoping that that's just what they'll do.
