Remember that the rich toolset provided by emulators is very important to homebrew developers, speedrun theorycrafters, and hobbyist hackers in general. For people so motivated to dig deeply in to the minutia of games, the time and money cost of acquiring a game and legally feeding it to an emulator are negligible. Thus, the demand for accurate emulators will always at least partially come from a legitimate audience.
