I hate saying literally "the n word" instead of the actual word itself. It's just a way to skate by saying the actual word itself. I say the actual word when I'm quoting something, or debating the use of the word, or singing along to a song, whatever. I dont really go out calling people that term though or use it in a hateful manner.

The idea that just because someone uses a word no matter the context means you can attach a label to someone is being lazy and not wanting to analyze the conversation because it's easy to look out for one word and then not have to think about the rest of the discussion.

I like to think of it the same way that Allen Iverson's "practice" rant was interpreted. What he said was "I may have missed one practice this year, but a reporter hears that and all of a sudden I dont care about the team. Because that's enough, that's all it takes because it's easy to take that one thing and make an interpretation about me". I paraphrased that quote of course but thats essentially what he said. Funnily enough the underlying message of that rant was lost, which was tragic. But the same thing applies here. You hear someone drop an n bomb and suddenly you're in hot water even if you weren't calling anybody that. Saying "the n word" to get around it shouldnt be an acceptable substitute. It should be how you use the word that matters
