It's not a First Amendment issue, but it is still something to be concerned with.

This is actually evidence that some portion of the public supports suppression of speech. The government is now going to be much more comfortable implementing policy that will inhibit free speech. And truthfully, it doesn't really matter what the government does, because our main vehicle of speech today is through social media. So if these corporations want you silenced, you essentially are silenced.

i didn't comment on whether not anyone should be banned. i was just pointing out that he isn't "harmless". i do feel these companies have the right to do whatever they want with their own platform, though.

They did fine with him there for years though.

Yeah, I don't think services like Google, apple or spotify would be effected as they are just platforms for content.

But yeah, the guys nuts. Dont like this precedent when if you look deep enough there are many, many people who are just as fucking insane with followers.

It's a case of, if you don't agree with it we'll just get rid of it.

Why do they think all of a sudden alt right creeps are using their own tactics against them?

There's a reason China has it's own state controlled social media

And in 'Murrica!, social media is controlled by independent corporations which are free allow or disallow anyone they want, for pretty much any reason they want.

I'm not sure that "public accommodation" anti-discrimination laws even apply, as the need to sign up and log in may make them legally "private clubs".

I never said Facebook was breaking the law. Not sure where you got that.

I said I didn't like it.

BWLurker posted...

That's not why. Their customers are pressuring them to remove his content. It's for profit, and very much a working of the free market.

Remember people talking about how the baker who refused to serve gays would eventually lose customers and go out of business? Same principle. More people want Jones removed than want him around. These companies are just following the majority of customers.

And that's a bad precedent.

Once upon a time the public opinion, money and outrage would be over people defending womens rights or opposing slavery or supporting gays. Ideas are not good or bad based on how popular they are in the present.

It's akin to the burning of books, it's not a good idea even if they're bad books.

I don't like control on that level over public digestion of information and discussion. Once again I'd point to China and North Korea.

Going "It's not government, it's money" doesn't make me feel better.

Trump and Hiliary Clinton created more Hateful rhtetoric than Alex Jones did.

Bill Maher literally said he wanted Trump to tank the US economy so people suffer, just so he would be impeached (worse than anything I can remember Jones saying)

Mike Pence is pro gay conversion therapy.

James Gunn made fun of rape victims.

Should they all be banned too? You don't beat these opinions by banning them.

All those people are terrible human beings & Id be more than fine with every one of them being banished from civilized society altogether.

I mean I guess James Gunn isnt completely irredeemable because he just made some really tasteless jokes, but my point stands.

I don't see how you could regulate this. Can't exactly tell facebook who they can and can't have on their own sites.

Not even sure how such a law could be worded even if you did support it.

Same as carving your own knee up with a butchers knife. I don't see how you could make it illegal but it's a bad idea and something we should oppose. Rather than encourage because we don't like the guy who did it.

However, if I were one of these tech companies, I'd still want people to watch/"listen to him using my platform since it generates revenue for me. Alex Jones is a nut and I dont listen to him.

Funny that all the people that are all "fair, next" when someone refuses service to homosexuals are now throwing a tizzy over this. So, I guess being a raving lunatic who spews hate speech should be a protected class now.

Also, really sounds like the alt-right need to pull up their bootstraps and make their own giant social media platforms. I mean, after all, they hate the left and everything they do, so why are they relying on the "liberal elite" for their social media needs? Sounds pretty cucky to me.
