Last time I tried going to a chiro was probably about 10 years ago and I literally ended up screwed. They did blood and piss tests on me before doing anything and found trace amounts of blood in my urine, which led to them doing a prostate exam on me.

I just wanna get my back adjusted, none of this bullshit this time.

Just tell them that theyre not doctors and you dont want any workup. They cant run tests if you adamantly tell them not to.

My dad is a chiropractor and I never understood the new-age crap some of these people do. X-Rays and manual alignment to treat the patient is all that should be involved. None of this vitamin-holding, electromagnetic wave reading, blood and piss testing stuff they put their patients through.

Chiropractors are useless. Everyone swears by them, but I don't get it. If they're so great why do you have to go back to them every week/month?

I don't like them, it's my last resort.

My body feels lopsided, like I'm always leaning to the right. Doctors have done nothing, just racked up bills. This is my last option, hoping my back has been all unaligned and they can magically make me feel normal again.

Exactly. I went to one once or twice that was doing all sorts of weird/dumb stuff. I quit that guy and went to one that... just does X-rays and adjustments. I think they had some electrode thing they could do that was supposed to help the muscle relax, but that seemed logical enough, not just waving vitamins at me to see how my body reacted like the first one did. >_>

Go to a different chiropractor? They didn't test my piss when I went to mine. They just massaged me and did an adjustment every time. Sometimes they did the electric pad thing on my back which was whatever.

Also if you have blood in your pee it's probably a good thing they fondled your prostate a little.

Same. I saw 2 doctors and 5 physical therapists for my shoulder, and they all told me different things. One even told me "have you tried just standing up straighter?"

4 weeks of my gymnastics coach's stretches and I'm pain free

Well we took X-rays and he showed me how fucked up my neck is and that I'm going to have a herniated disc soon if I do nothing. Then we did the adjustments and they want me to come in 3 times a week, you know the usual drill with these chiros.

The thing is though, I really feel different. Like especially in my car I always have been feeling like I'm falling to the right and have to hold myself up. On the drive home, finally I felt normal again. So I'm actually really excited right now.

Well yeah, a lot of people buy their bullshit and go three times a week. PTs don't try to convince you that cracking your neck is the only cure.

Why don't real doctors and physical therapists do "adjustments"?

What strengthening/flexibility exercises is he making you do then? How can he tell that you're going to have a herniated disc from xrays when only an MRI can reliably diagnose that?

Sounds like a conman to me.

He showed me how the bones are coming together and the calcium buildup was there. I mean I saw the x-rays so I do believe that at least that part of it is legit. Whether he can actually fix it, I'm doubtful.

What does @Coffeebeanz think of chiropractors?

Pseudoscience.

Based on a scientific unsound theory that all disease comes from vertebral subluxations.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiropractic

Numerous controlled clinical studies of treatments used by chiropractors have been conducted, with conflicting results.[4] Systematic reviews of this research have not found evidence that chiropractic manipulation is effective, with the possible exception of treatment for back pain.[4] A critical evaluation found that collectively, spinal manipulation was ineffective at treating any condition.[9] Spinal manipulation may be cost-effective for sub-acute or chronic low back pain but the results for acute low back pain were insufficient.[10] The efficacy and cost-effectiveness of maintenance chiropractic care are unknown.[11] There is not sufficient data to establish the safety of chiropractic manipulations.[12] It is frequently associated with mild to moderate adverse effects, with serious or fatal complications in rare cases.[13] There is controversy regarding the degree of risk of vertebral artery dissection, which can lead to stroke and death, from cervical manipulation.[14]Several deaths have been associated with this technique[13] and it has been suggested that the relationship is causative,[15][16] a claim which is disputed by many chiropractors.[16]

Again, this isn't about illness with me, it's about my neck vertebrae. We took Xrays. He showed me how it should look with this natural curve, and how mine goes up and then juts forward. It's real science, undeniable.

What would a real doctor do with this information then? That's the question.

Literally written by a chiropractor

http://www.dranthonygustin.com/why-your-chiropractor-is-lying-to-you-and-how-to-find-a-chiropractor-that-wont/

Heres where your chiropractor is lying to you you are never out of alignment. Your bones dont go out of position and your chiropractor isnt putting them back in place for you. An x-ray does not show malposition of joints that the chiropractor is going to very carefully reposition for you over the course of the next 129 treatments.

Using an elementary approach, if it were so easy to put very little pressure and direct a joint to go back in place, what do you think would happen if you were to trip and fall to the ground? Following the logic of joints easily going in and out of position, youd likely be immediately paralyzed. This clearly doesnt happen. Your joints do not slip or go out, and if they did, you would know it.

If your chiropractor says your joints are going out of place, they are lying to you. If they say they can magically put them back into position for you, they are lying to you.

Quality physical therapy or similar activities (Like yoga) is the solution. Most, as in 90%+, of chronic back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, and knee pain is caused by mobility limitation or strength deficiencies/imbalances. Physical therapy designed to improve range of motion and core strength will do wonders unless there is a significant medical condition--Herniated disc, scoliosis, ect. This will usually involve dynamic stretches and light resistance exercises.
