That's what the scales would lead you to believe, imo.

But that's like.... a pound a day.... that's not even possible...

1lbs of fat is like 3500 calories... so every day this summer this far you've consumed a minimum 5500 calories assuming your daily needs are the minimum of 2000 and not more?

I'd assume my metabolism was very low from my 1600ish a day regiment and that a good portion of that is water weight. I'd expect probably the first 10 lbs to drop off within a few days

Also not really a lb a day. From May 20th to August 5th. About 75 days I'd guess.

That's most likely true and even then losing that water weight will feel good and give you a nice positive boost to continue the process.

Dunno if you ever do any light cardio outside like walking or jogging or riding a bike (this is especially nice) but soon when Autumn hits it's the best time of year to get into it !

Yeah, I am not worried about losing it. I just find it impossible with all the events and vacations and drinking parties and weddings and shit to stay on course during the summer. The other months nothing really goes on so I find it super easy.

I lost 48lbs from February 14th to May 20th. We will be all right!

If I may give just a few short tips Scare:

- Go on a low carb diet (you don't need to be 0 carbs by any means, but know what foods are carb-heavy and avoid them as often as possible. This also means low sugar). I think you're already good on this but really internalize it. If you need to gradually remove some foods from your diet that's fine, it doesn't all have to be immediate. Weight loss is a marathon not a sprint.

- Don't just focus on cardio in the gym, do some light strength training too. Do a bit of research on what good workout plans are so you can learn how to make yourself efficient in the gym so you're not just wasting time.

- Remember that monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fats are okay! Obviously don't go overboard but you can have these. Trans and saturated fats are pretty bad though.

My only suggestions to you based on this is

- cut back on sodas entirely. They are bad. And they will make you crave more. All water as much as you can handle it. Lemons to flavor it some.

- time of day you eat doesn't really matter unless you are intermittent fasting. Nor does it really matter the food type as far as calories go. Some will just make you feel more filled and better than others. But end of the day it is hitting your calorie goal. Carbs are good to cut down just because they are calorie heavy foods however.

Yeah I'm open to hearing any suggestions. Education is the basis for any successful journey

Yeah I love bread so it's hard that why I'm limiting it at evenings for now and then gradually get it less and less period

And yeah cardio is not everything. For example we stayed an hour last night and only spent 15 minutes on cardio the rest were weight training based.

I surprisingly got a great cardio effect from a rear leg extension type machine. I'll get the name of it next time but it's like a long bar and you put your chest on a pad standing up and shoot your leg back works on glutes and quads.

Also loving medicine ball slams. Only 8lb ball so going to try and incorporate it every session

That is called calories out. Lol.

Everyone processes calories different. This is called a metabolism. You can estimate it, but they vary. And bodily functions like thyroid and others can change how the calories are burned. However, this is calories out.

And, no, my weight gain shows nothing for it not working that way. It just shows over 75 days I consumed at a surplus of about 1850 calories a day on average or some shit.

I think it should be the opposite, that you would be gaining less weight than your intake would suggest since insulin isn't properly acting to store ingested sugar, resulting in sugar excreted in the urine.

While I think Corrik is often way too simplified when it comes to weight loss, I do agree with him that cutting out sodas entirely is the best idea. Way too sugary and tons of bad ingredients. Plus, say you have like 2 to 3 cans of soda in a day. You've now had like 60g of sugar at least, plus 500 calories or more. If you're trying to keep yourself under a caloric limit, soda is going to destroy those plans.

Just switch to water/unsweet tea. They're both 0 calories, 0 carbs, 0 fats. Basically they are perfect drinks. And IMO after you're off soda for a while, you'll hate the taste of the carbonation and sugar.

Unsweet tea may take some getting used to if you're not used to drinking it already, but it's fantastic if you get bored of water and start getting used to the tea taste. Cold unsweet tea is insanely refreshing to me now, but the first time I tried it, I thought it was just bitter water. Not anymore.

I might try that tea sometimes. The biggest problem with water is that eventually you just want to taste something haha.

If you have to try diet pops or flavored waters, I mean, they still suck cuz they will make you crave sugar but they are at least better than soda.

What Im saying is, an insulin-resistant person (which is the majority of people on the standard American diet with high body fat) eats at a 600 calorie deficit of mostly carbs, they will lose less weight than if theyd had the same calories in fat.

No difference in the number of calories, but there will be a demonstrable difference in weight loss.

Likewise, if a person goes back to their normal caloric levels and keeps carbs low, they will regain less than otherwise.

See I'm at a weight where I still go and have a drink with a sugar-based flavoring it in and I don't worry about it at all. So my drinks are basically this:
- Water 1st
- Unsweet tea close 2nd
- Milk 3rd (not more than a cup or two a day)
- Sometimes I'll have lemonade or a flavored tea, like maybe once or twice a week

But if your weight is high enough and you can live without the milk or the flavored tea, then just cut it completely. Milk really is not a good drink to have while trying to lose weight (although its nutrients are still fantastic, it'll counter your weight loss pretty easily), and the 15-20g of sugar in a serving of flavored tea is a lot of sugar for one drink.

This is not correct.

With insulin resistance, your body doesnt utilize the glucose in your bloodstream as fuel properly.

This causes excess glucose to stay in your blood stream, which causes your cells to begin storing it as fat, because it sees it as extra unused fuel.

In Diabetes, some of that sugae does get excreted in urine, but thats sugar that a healthy body would have used as fuel, not cut calories.

I was meaning ingested sugar and carbs above what is needed for standard energy expenditure.

But you're right that was I was forgetting an important factor. In insulin resistance your body is flooded with more insulin than ordinary which causes accelerated synthesis of fat which is why it causes excess hunger which continues to literally feed into itself.

yeah definitely better than regular soda.

they still have ingredients in them that are questionable for long-term health (not definitively bad for you, but not really 100% trusted yet either), especially those sugar substitutes, but if they're only short-term for helping you transition to drinks that aren't sweet, then you're on the right path.

Once again I want to echo Solio's posts.

In my experience, if you're building muscle, it changes what you want to eat. If you're eating protein and building muscles, you're gonna build some good strength and feel good about that and become enthused about the nutrition behind building muscles. So I always like to suggest macros to start so you can understand your food better and understand the composition of your diet better. It doesn't take long to just quickly break down most foods you commonly eat into protein/fat/carb and then understand what you're looking to eat in a given day. Oh, I'm building muscle, I should eat this... I am cutting weight, I should eat this... oh, it's just maintenance mode, I should eat that...

I guess I come from the point that you should to re-configure what you want to eat. I don't think that denying yourself foods that you crave (and have trained your body to crave) is a recipe for success. I think Atkins or systems like Weight Watchers are short term solutions that will often see people go back to old habits. It just seems like starving yourself (whether you realize it or not, or justify it as CICO) is only meant to give you quick results but ultimately return you to a place where you need to use that diet again. Sure, it could just be that you need to increase your willpower over the rest of your life and stick to a strict discipline, but, any plan with a sheer cliff dropoff penalty for a mistake is a bad one IMO.

I learned a lot about how CICO actually works on the fatlogic subreddit. If you can get past all the sociopaths left over from when Fat Hate got shut down, it's actually a terrific source of info and discussion on the reality of weight loss and gain.

Also sup bros. Started at 255-260 in early June. Just passed the 230 barrier after weeks of hanging around in the low 230s!

I put on nearly 100 pounds in under a year by taking an anti-depressent that had horrible, horrible side-effects. No matter how much I ate I could never feel full. It was miserable and I got very depressed.

I finally found a doctor who could help me, and he got me on another medication that also helps my problem (interstitial cystitis). The difference was immediately noticeable. Instead of chowing down on five cheeseburgers and feeling nothing, I ate a single turkey sandwich and felt satisfied and full! I actually am having to relearn how to eat, because my brain still tells me I need to keep eating all the food or I'll starve. I'm getting a lot better and am starting to feel like myself again.

My goal is 175. I'm really excited to get there and post on the progress pics subreddit and score all the sweet, sweet karma.

I'll check in here time-to-time now that I'm back for contest season.
