He said some shitty things... but we all make mistakes. And he apologized profusely and even cried. Sounds to me like he feels a ton of guilt.

I say he should be forgiven.

Or

You forgive people who are genuinely remorseful for saying stupid shit years ago on twitter.

I couldn't really tell due to the illiteracy of the tweets, but it seemed like his use of the n word wasn't racially charged. Just a case of a white person using the word as a black person would. To me at least that makes it less offensive, though not excusable I guess.

The tweet about gay people was pretty clear in him being homophobic, although it's possible he doesn't believe that anymore.

People need to stop giving a fuck about the past comments of people who become famous. Some people here would be shocked to know the amount of people who hold these little shitty opinions but don't believe deeply enough about them to express except in the form of little shitposts on the internet. Some of those people become famous, because sometimes we're pulling from a different crowd than, say, wealthy and educated actors and actresses.

Our society has such fucked up priorities when it comes to punishing bigotry. These people dedicate their lives to their craft and we celebrate their talents. But somehow, if we find out they're not morally perfect on togetherness, we have to literally kill their life accomplishments and amputate their potential for any further ones. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. What does it feel like to know you will never accomplish greatness ever again in your young life? Is being moderately bigoted in the past really worth putting that on someone?

What does the persistence of it have to do with anyone but himself? I'm not affected by the ability to go out of my way to dig for his past comments. I'm not compelled to do so and I will never stumble upon them by chance.

Why wouldn't we evaluate it case-by-case? Sometimes it isn't worth batting an eye at, other times it's worth action.

Also, why would you have a problem with people addressing vocalized bigotry?

We should evaluate case by case but nobody seems to be doing that. We just latch on to shame-bandwagons any time the hivemind tells us somebody needs to be hated because it makes us feel informed.

No, I don't think that's the case at all. A recent example is James Gunn. A lot of people seem to be upset that he was fired from Disney over his old tweets.

You seem to be promoting the idea that we should ignore it 100% of the time and move on.

Then that would be on your reading comprehension and preconceived notions that I'm just being a partisan adversary.
