I get exhausted by the 8 or 8.5 hour mark, I can't imagine doing another 1 or 1.5 hours after that.

Pretty much this. My job isn't very difficult most of the time, and 10 hour days is something I just happen to do sometimes any way.

I do 9/80,

First week is 4 days of 9 hours, Friday off
Second week is 4 days of 9 hours and 8 hours on Friday.

So a 3 day weekend every other week. But I agree, going more than 9 hours is difficult. The 9 is difficult as is already

9/80 sucks because 99% of the time you've got shit to do on that "off friday" and you never actually get off, especially if you work on projects that collaborate with others outside your organization. The only people who actually get the day off are HR (who pioneer the idea) because they'd rather the whole place burn down than actually alter their schedules to support the business.

Luckily the outside organization I work with have the same 9/80 schedule we have, but I understand what you mean.

And ya, working the off Friday can be shit but I try my best to not have to

The other problem is it forces you into a situation where you can't avoid rush hour. Before we went 9/80 I was able to get in a bit late and leave a bit late, dodging rush hour entirely on both ends. Now, I either get in a bit late and end up staying way too late, or I drive in during rush hour to avoid the evening commute, or I get in early and get stuck in evening rush out. It basically doubles my commute time.

If you're salary, 4 tens is the way to go. Doesn't benefit hourly as much, as it reduces the amount of overtime pay you could get. Anyway, both do give 3 day weekends.
As doom said also, save money on gas too.

What kind of job do you have? Get more sleep and consistently sleep and wake up at the same time. Also, drink coffee too at work when you feel tired.

Multiple jobs at an art gallery. My commute is 1.5 hours so I barely have free time in the evening, getting more sleep would cut that down even more.

I used to work 4 10 hour days at my old job in the hospital before I got promoted to my current position. Once you just get used to the need for more caffeine in a given day, I'd unquestionably say that 4x10 > 5x8. I'd gladly go back to that if I didn't need to do at least some facetime almost every work day with suppliers and board members.

Yeah, I don't have the option but I'd be a little torn on where to take it... 3 day weekend or break midweek... but I think a break midweek would be the best. Would be cool if they'd let you flex it if you wanted to go out of town for a long weekend or something, though.

My old job had the 4-10s option.

My new job won't do it because they would have no one come in on Friday.

Some will, but each person would be doing 3 tasks and production would be slack and pointless.

So we do 4-9s and a 4.

Still doesn't matter.

I still can make 40 to 50 hours a week.

Its actually a lot easier to get hobbies in doing 4 day shifts. Nice projection there though.

People wanting 10 hour shifts = they don't do anything after work that day other than eat donuts and watch TV.
