Green Hill Zone was a good world. Thats how the whole game should have been like.

But a character designed to go fast is stuck in a game designed to make the player slow down and wait otherwise they would be punished.

Old school Sonic is supposed to combine speed and platforming.

Problem with Sonic 1 is that HALF the zones (Marble, Labyrinth and Scrap Brain) aren't speed oriented at all; they're just slow ass, boring platforming, defeating the whole purpose of a Sonic game.

Sonic 2 and 3&K are much better.

Have you been watching Game Grumps, TC?

I think Sonic 1 was popular mostly because of the aesthetic. No one had seen anything like it before. Marble and Labyrinth are slow and frustrating but the game has some fun sections.

Sometimes I think people forgot the importance of the Bonus levels in Sonic 1 and 2.
Both really added a lot.

Personally, I like the music a lot. Marble Hill Zone has the best song in the whole game. It's a fun little tech demo game that became the foundation for better games later down the line - same as Crash Bandicoot, imo.

Sonic is a game that falls apart the further you play it. Star Light Zone is a fucking mess, and Metropolis Zone can get fucked - but I do like Green Hill Zone, Marble Hill Zone and to an extent Labyrinth Zone. I'd argue that Labyrinth Zone is when the game starts to really go down the shitter, like that's the breaking point right there.

Funny I actually liked Marble Zone because then it finally played like a platformer and the music was great.

Metropolis isn't a Sonic 1 zone

So it would seem. The zone I'm thinking about is Scrap Brain Zone.
