It's odd. The closest Papa John's to me in Brooklyn is the one in a somewhat bad area that is entirely behind bulletproof glass and the pizza tastes mediocre. But the one I go to in Astoria tastes amazing. This was the last time I got it:

I don't hate them, and my wife orders from there pretty regularly because she loves their breadsticks for some reason. They wouldn't be my first choice, but I think people exaggerate a lot about how bad it is

There's a Pizza Hut Express here, but I actually haven't had Pizza Hut since I was overseas 7 years ago. Now THAT pizza was truly good. The McDonald's too. Amazing how they taste better overseas than they do in the U.S.

They're not even the best "papa" pizza chain, and that other one makes you cook it your damn self.

Yeah, I think it's Ok and I'll eat it if someone offers. I understand if people don't like it, but you have some people, even here on CE, claiming it's literally shit. All I can think of is how the fuck do you even know what shit tastes like and do I really want to know the answer to that question.

I will say that I would eat a whole pie, like the one in my OP, and still feel hungry. Empty calories. But I go to a local NYC pizza place and feel full after 2 slices.

It's much better than Pizza Hut, Dominos, Little Caesar's. Only problem is that Papa John's costs more than those places.

As far as chain places go, I definitely prefer Domino's. I also prefer the taste and options at Pizza Hut more, but Papa John's doesn't make me feel as bad when I eat it.

When I had a Papa John's near me, I'd get it when they had 50% off deals like if the Royals got 5 runs of Sporting KC got 2 goals, but otherwise I'd go elsewhere. Now that I don't live near one, I definitely don't seek it out.

They used to sell Papa John's slices on Fridays during lunch back when I was in highschool, and I swear that shit tasted waaay better than ordering it from the joint.

I've never had Papa John's that could live up to that.

yes they are my favorite chain pizza. I know lots of people say it's trash but I like it. I'd rather eat that instead of pizza hut, dominoes or Little Caesars, that last one is my least favorite. I think they have really low quality pizza. that's why they can sell hot and readies for only 5 bucks

I've only had it once actually. It was alright. My favourite chain pizza is Domino's by far. Their thin crust pepperoni/bacon with BBQ sauce is God Tier. Best pizza I've ever had was a place called Duke's in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Never had pizza that compared. When I was living there, myself and a few people I trained with would eat there almost weekly with the pizza being our food of choice the majority of the time.

This. BBQ chicken is usually my go to pizza and no other place convenient to me can seem to get it right, so Papa Johns is usually my go to when ordering. (Years ago when I tried Pizza Hut they had stepped up their BBQ game though).

It was crazy because we had this "express line" which had some kind of sandwhich, fries, and you could purchase a slice of Papa Johns for $2.50. It was insane because people would get 2 slices and a ton of fries every. single. day.

I got a slice maybe once a month or so and you're right; for some reason it was really good. Maybe it was just the fact we were eating pizza in school

I like Little Caesars $5 Lunch Combo. Their pizzas are a bit too bready though. They need to tone down the dough just a bit.

Dominoes is alright. I liked them more before they changed their default crust to that disgusting garlic flavor.

Pizza Hut is aptly described by Pizza the Hut in Spaceballs: disgusting

Peter Pipers Pizza was alright from what I remember. I havent been there in years.

Papa Johns pizza just taste weird to me. Like there is something up with their spices.

Dions is really greasy. Every time I eat there, it runs right through me.

I usually just make my own pizza now. Its surprisingly easy.

Yes, because where I live, Domino's and the local places have gone completely bonkers while Pizza Hut wants to charge ludicrous prices, so the only decent way to eat pizza is either Papa John's, or head to Costco.

Pizza Hut and Papa John's where I am make great pizza, Little Ceasars and Dominos are the shitty ones here.

Tried the Little Ceasars in my area twice and will not go back, Dominos was good in the early 2000's here but something went very wrong after that and their pizza is terrible now.

That said, no big chain is going to beat a good local spot.
