They expanded on it with the extra scenes after launch. Probably added more in the royal edition but I've not bought that yet. Also made the immortality clear in episode ignis.

Rowen from Resonance of Fate
He wanted to bring back the woman who guided the city and helped maintain order, became disillusioned when he discovered truths about the city they live in, reluctantly ended up causing many of the events that resulted in tragedies that the party had to deal with, became an enemy of circumstance, was actually heartbroken upon realizing his relation to one of the party members and his guilt in her impending death, really only wanted to do the right thing and guide the city through the chaos but made things worse without seeing the harm actually felt until years later. And then became immortal at the end like the main party had previously, and of course this could be seen as a curse given it means he'll spend eternity without the woman he adored.

A lot of Batman villains are very sympathetic. I can't remember all the names so bear with me. Also I'm going by the cartoon, since that's canon.

You got Mr. Freeze trying to save his wife.

You've got that woman who is stuck in a little girl's body. That'd piss anyone off.

You have the puppet dude, split personality, his real self is a broken terrified man, but he can accomplish things through his puppet.

You've got Croc, a circus sideshow.

You've got that one masked lady who thinks she's hideous but is actually gorgeous, clearly severe psychological problems and obsession with social pressure from society on beauty.

You've got Clayface, a man who got by on his looks disfigured in an accident and went to desperate measures to get his face back.

You've got Two-Face, a man with a split personality and severe anger problems, who gets severally disfigured by acid.

You really feel for all these bad guys. I believe Batman is at his best when, at the end of the story, when the threats are overcome and the danger has passed, Batman talks the villain down, and they break, and realize how messed up they are. Batman is at his best when he wants to help them. Sadly, they never portray this Batman in the movies very well.
