Those. Fuck OP's aversion to PC gaming. You can't really separate it from console gaming in terms of influence, especially nowadays when many traditionally PC-centric genres are popular on consoles.

Ultima Underworld basically influenced "immersive sims" (and other games), from System Shock / 2 to Deus Ex to BioShock to The Elder Scrolls (and arguably BotW, at least indirectly), and many others. What genre is DMC, then? Bare in mind I've got several hours on the series. Not much time, that's true, but if I can't tell what genre a game is within several hours, I should probably be worried (and I'm not).

I think it's a bit too sophisticated to exactly be hack and slash (although not by much, lulz). I mean, Streets of Rage / Bare Knuckle was hack and slash, this is more a third person shooter, IMHO, and nobody can deny it has platform elements, and I suppose a little bit of exploring as well.

Japan is only one of two main game producing territories, and only one of at least a dozen territories that play games. I'm sure there are plenty of Americans and Europeans that don't care about the series much, or haven't even played it (like me).

It we're talking RTS games, then Dune II and the original Command and Conquer are the big ones. You know, I can't believe that South Koreans still apparently play a lot of Warcraft. It's something like 15 years old.

Yeah but dragon quest was just taking what was already done in Wizardry/Ultima and anime-ifying it. Same with visual novels, widely considered a Japanese genre due to their proclivity, can be traced back to old text adventures.

Typically American devs invent genres and the Japanese devs refine them. Which is more "important" is up for debate.

If that's the case then Resident Evil 1 should be replaced with Sweet Home

It's hard to know where to start.

It shouldn't be GTA V, but GTA III; it shouldn't be MGS V, but MGS 1, if anything; Monster Hunter World really isn't that important. Various other games probably aren't important enough to be there. I assume this list was posted as a joke, but I'm not sure.

Why? How many sequels did it get? One. How many did the original Command and Conquer get? Six, I think. Plus all the spinoffs. I think that you were "got to" by the South Koreans. Starcraft is an imporant game, yes, but it's not as important as some stuff. Besides, it's a PC game, and this is meant to be a list of console games only.

gta v has better graphic and play than 3, it's about some other overall attributes in the game, too. mgs v is better than 1 cause of the graphic and some other overall attributes of the game, too. my list is not about just the most important ones, but it is about those dream games that most people will like to play and own. so, my list suit the tastes of most people.

games like virtua fighter 1 and street fighter 2 are too one dimensional and will get repetitive....only people who were really into 1 on 1 fighting would love those.

Anybody bashing Fortnite doesn't understand the impact its everlasting beta status will impact the industry as a whole

Apart from MW1, are there any other very important COD games? I think MW2 and MW3 are both excellent games, between then I have hundreds of hours, and they obviously sold extremely well, I think both might have been Day 1 record breakers, but I don't know if they changed things very much. Plenty of Halos were really popular, but I don't know if there were extremely important games, though.

I added in MW2 and Black Ops 1 because they were so hugely successful. They set new records for Day 1 sales. MW2 sold 4.7 million copies, which was unheard of and very impressive, and Black Ops 1 sold 5.6 million copies.

As for AC, not only did it create a very popular franchise, I don't think there had been many games before that had combined realistic platforming, combat and stealth in quite that way. Of course, one might argue that Mirror's Edge 1 came out the same day, and was sorta the same thing. Clearly, though, people thought AC did it better, perhaps because it was third person.

I also added PSO and CCR!, for probably quite obvious reasons.

Nah you're missing the point. It wasn't the first stealth game either, but that's kind of a side note.

What it revolutionized about video gaming was tone, atmosphere and storytelling. Literally almost every single player video game since just a few years after MGS1 has used MGS-style cutscenes as the primary means of telling the story.
