Or maybe they shouldn't have to, idk. So many reviews for Octopath Traveler knock the game down for not having an overarching story but it turns out there is. Reviewers just didnt play far enough. Thats really silly to me.

The last chunk of a game can really make or break it. Can you give an accurate review without knowing anything about that section of the game?

Its a given its not thoroughly reviewing late game stuff in an rpg. If they say they have 30-60 hours then theyre obviously reviewing it within that many hours played.

If youre so against their review then youve made your mind up and shouldnt worry about their review.

That style of review is obviously flawed for RPGs. When they're supposed to be lengthy adventures, you get a lot of unhelpful impressions when they're just dropping the game in the middle somewhere or trying to get through it as fast as possible.

However, I've heard in some other more credible reviews that made it clear how far he made it through the game that so far there's only been very minor crossover of stories but his biggest complaint was the general lack of character interaction despite having finished 2 of the stories already

I've heard from people that got it early that there isn't a final chapter after you finish the 8 stories. That the 8 stories are it for story content, but there are a ton of side-quests including a difficult post-game dungeon.

I saw some people mistranslated the Japanese guide to think there was end game story content when in reality it's just random extra dungeon.

The question is about whether you'd like it enough to make it worth buying in the first place.

Impressions and reviews do matter because it doesn't matter if we ignore reviews, plenty of others decide pretty much solely on whether or not the reviews are positive, at worse case just look at the score and decide entirely.

The problem with this is that there are less people to talk to about the game, and on this board you get a lot of people spouting stuff they've read in the reviews without having actually played the game, which devolves conversations into absolute nonsense. Call it a justification for being assholes about things they don't know much about

This is why I think free demos (that are straight gameplay from the final version ala Octopath's demo and similarly Bravely Second's demo) need to become a standard again.

Yeah demos are probably the best way. Bravely Default did it the best. A sort of a mid-section game that has its own contained meta. Or the EO demos that put a lot of stuff where it's still the first 4ish hour of the game, but it's also its own little game.

Both ways are perfect in showing how the game plays as well as what we might expect in the future. If a person played a really well made demo and was still not convinced, the game is without a doubt not for him
