I actually really enjoyed Hau and the relationship you had with him. YOU were basically the rival in that game, always one-upping him and beating him with the type advantage pokemon at every encounter. Was cool how they changed that dynamic.

It's just hard to get over that this game is probably going to have less content than FR/LG. No wild Pokemon battles, no Safari Zone, even simpler difficulty, probably no Sevii Islands, no connectivity to past games, sounds like possibly no connectivity to future games...

Don't quote me on this but my understanding is that this game is supposed to have a different story from (or take place slightly after?) the original Kanto games. So that's why the rival, and the main characters, are different.

I believe the old Safari Zone is now the equivalent of Pal Park, for transferring Pokmon from Go to Lets Go.

A lot of the appeal of Pokemon has always been that it's targeted at kids at the top level but is still enjoyable for an older crowd because the mechanics of the series are set up in a way that makes it as simple or complex as you want. It hasn't always been a perfect formula but it's usually worked pretty well.

I think a little annoyance is somewhat understandable.

It's like complaining about Pokepark

I understand thinking it looks simple and not wanting it, but it's not like it's replacing a mainline game, so little more than a "Huh, not for me" doesn't seem too warranted

Yep. And in a way it sorta makes sense since this Go style of capture essentially makes the whole game play like the Safari Zone, but still.

It's not a real Pokemon game and I'm not treating it as one

It's their first go at a Switch game. I'm taking it as their trial run more than anything

Would rather they just didn't and went full pelt at a really good proper game next year, but it is what it is.

Oh I guess the confusion is Nintendo seems to think there's a distinction between "core" and "mainline". They're calling it a "core" Pokemon title but not "mainline". Well okay then.

I think this is a good reintroduction of the series. The number of kids I know that play pokemon is down. Most people I know that play pokemon are full grown adults.

Well it makes sense they want to say core because, well they're still trying to sell the product! They dont want to try to downplay it by saying "oh yea I guess we have this shit coming out this year BUT NEXT YEAR IS THE REAL ONE"

So it's "core" to not just have it be a throwaway side game (even if it might end up being) while still getting a "main" one next year

It'd be nice if there was a 'normal' mode and a 'hard' mode (for the more hardcore fans). But I think the game looks good, and will be a great introduction to the original games for my kids. And I think I'll probably enjoy it too. Really hope you can have more than one save file. THAT alone would be a major jump from past pokemon games.

that and I've only played a handful of Pokemon games. I enjoy them but I'm not hardcore into them

To my knowledge there's at least one Switch game that already disables that feature (1-2 Switch, I think?), so it's entirely possible Pokemon will do the same. And if so, I would also expect a future Animal Crossing game to do the same, so you can still only have one town at a time.

Which is nice, because I really don't want to buy five copies of the same game.

The thing the bothers me the most is not the Pokemon GO catching mechanics, or the kiddy graphics, or the casual gameplay, or the friendly rival or whatever
The thing the bothers the most...is that you know EXACTLY what to expect
You know how the entire map will look like
You know exactly which Pokemon you are going to encounter and where
You know exactly who you are going to battle at every route

And then you might say "but yes, it's a remake!" and I disagree with this because the 3 remakes we got had a lot of new stuff that this game just..doesn't have
It also had access to most up to date Pokemon, items and overall mechanics

But here? nope, only 151 Pokemon (plus one mystery which is actually exciting but you know they will reveal it a week before release..), dumbed down mechanics, less items, less everything

Tell me this game is set in the future, tell me some areas we changed, some areas were added, a whole new story, anything other than "just a remake"

I kinda crapped on this in the last topic about it, but after watching the trailer I can admit there are actually some elements of it which do look appealing. Being able to ride around on giant Pokemon is something I would have killed for when I was still actually into Pokemon like ten years ago.

None of it looks good enough to actually make me want to buy a Switch, though, and there are still some fundamental issues with the game. But it is at least a little bit cooler than I was originally thinking.

Definitely not interested at all in this, but I'm not the target audience so whatevs. I never had any interest at all in Pokemon Go and this is pretty much life support for those people. I'll be keeping an eye out for whatever the main line game they're cooking up is, though!
