I just learned that my manager called me into work to replace her because she couldn't or didn't want to show for her shift, and at my previous place of work I would get called in alot because they always needed me, because no else would.

So now I've decided I'm not going to come in when they ask me too ever again, and if they do. I'll just ignore their phone call. But I've heard that employers can fire you for not coming in or staying after your designated shift. So that leads to the my question: Has any employer of yours threatened to terminate you employment for refusing to come in.

In California, they can fire you for anything, anytime, anywhere. Kinda sucks. That means they could probably fire you if your socks dont match.

On the other hand, a lot of California businesses are so worried about being sued that they don't fire anyone even when they should. :P

I did get fired from Sears for accidentally showing up early one time though.

I have never been threatened by my employer for not showing up or calling back on my day off. My boss figures if I don't call back, I already have plans or something. If I were to not show up when scheduled it would count as two tardies for no call and no show. Once you get twelve tardies, then the company would fire your butt in a heartbeat.

So far my jobs have had set days and set times, with my current job having voluntary overtime on the weekends, so no. I did get warned about coming in late too many times at my previous job, but I ended up quitting since I got a new job anyway.

My brother gets called in a lot of his job. Everyone there kinda sucks at working. So he does pretty much everything...

Well, it was my own fault. A couple friends and I were going to go out to dinner that night to discuss getting an apartment. So instead of working the 1-9pm shift, I came in at 9am and hoped to leave early.

My boss had a hard on for me and sees me, Uhh youre not supposed to be here. Oops I forgot. Well can you work until 9pm and close? No? Youre fired.

Uhh what if I come back at 1. Youre fired.
Work all day? Youre fired.

Sears had a zero tolerance policy on missing any work (which I hadnt done) within the first 90 days of employment. So thats what he used to justify it.

That policy? Didnt matter if you were hit by a car and it was 100% their fault and you were in the hospital. Fired.

You should burn it down... But in all honesty, something similar happened to me. I was going to my homecoming dance senior year. And I asked for time off and got it. But something was wrong on the sheet, so they asked me to redo it. And this time, I didn't get it.

So I asked about it to one of the many managers at Target, and she said to come in early, and then I would get to leave early. When I got there, they didn't say anything at first. Then after like a hour or two, they said I had three options. 1) Go home and come back for my shift. 2) Finish the shift I was working, go home, then come back for my night shift. 3) Finish this shift, stay through the middle shift, then work my shift.

I told them I would take the fourth option. Which was finish this shift, then go to the dance. I told them what the other manager said. They still wanted me to work. I didn't. But I didn't get fired that time...

I have maadatory overtime at one of my jobs. Also, I was also warned about being fired for being late at a couple jobs. One manager always said she'd fired me, but wouldn't. And would even ask if I could help out when I was on vacation home. My current job, as well. But I think they did that because they wanted to fired someone else... I was sometimes late(or right on time, which was late) for my job on base(in the Air Force), but it was always ok, I guess...

I'm in the Air Force myself and this rule pretty much applies to every branch. It goes something like "If you're 15 minutes early, you're on time, if you're on time, you're late." It's just kinda beaten into you.

It's unlikely that you'd be fired for turning down a non-scheduled shift and some states have laws against that. iirc, Democrats were trying to pass a package that would have banned a lot of scummy retail scheduling practices which would have, among other things, forced employers to give more notice when scheduling. I think that finally got killed, though.

The topic title is completely misleading, though.

Not to be fired, but I got threatened to get my vacation delayed more than once, so I worked until 2 in the morning because I just HAD to get my vacation that day. Well, I guess it can't be helped in my case as there aren't many employees here besides me, so my work can't just be done by someone else.

And yeah, I got threatened to get fired for showing up late, that happens when you have to use public transport. And a ton of other stupid shit got me threats before, I had to restrain myself to not laugh at my boss face when it happened.

I've only been fired by going to work. If i call in sick over and over, they have to wait for me to get in before they can fire me.
