Well of course, but that's hardly news.

It's been well-established for years that it's meant to mock those who dare to have emotions about something.

It's one of those terms that's been ruined through misuse and overuse.

To me, a "snowflake" is somebody who is pretentiously trying to be unique. If someone dyes their hair green and buzzes off one side of their head, that person's a snowflake. Yet, somehow, the term became associated with emotional fragility. And like every other buzzword in this generation, it became incorporated into political vernacular. If you call someone a snowflake, you're a conservative.

It's like a political and ideological Civil War. There's no such thing as neutral terminology. They'll try to force you to pick one side or the other and, if you don't identify, they'll try to claim you for their own or as part of the opposition. Fuck that noise.

People misuse it to mean "sensitive" when it actually means someone who wants everyone to recognize their demi-semi-agender panromantic-heteroqueer helicopter-ness and thinks there are hundreds of genders.

Fragile snowflake - incorrect
Special snowflake - correct

He's a massive hypocrite

He was on someone's show.. I forget who, maybe Bill Maher and he was like "OMG people get offended over everything! You should be allowed to make fun of and say whatever you want! Who cares what people think!"

And now where he is saying that people who hold his own views are psychopaths.

And keep in mind Monty Python was shocking and controversial when it came out. Both the TV Show and Life of Brian. There's a reason why it inspired South Park.

Sure it seems tame now, but at the time people were mortified.

Basically he wants free reign for liberals but conservatives to STFU

Every time I go to one of my sons school functions I realize how many pretentious snowflake parents there are out there when I see some kids names on the programs. :-/

But seriously I agree with this post overall

Religious people are some of the oldest snowflakes. Between the thousands of different religions around the world, even if you settle down on Christianity you still have dozens of denominations to parse through to specify your own unique individual specialness.

This fight over snowflake has always been pretty amusing to me. It's just one side fighting a war that the other side doesn't even realize it's in just because the concept of a single word having multiple definitions is alien to them, for some reason.

Knowing him from what I've heard him say in interviews throughout the years, I believe his attitude toward this comes down to 'Go ahead and share your own perspective (regardless of your political ideology), just be sure that this is what you yourself believe, rather than what you were told to believe, and don't be a pretentious prick about it.'

fight club is a satirical novel written by a gay man to caricature toxic masculinity. seeing "snowflake" used without a trace of irony is... quite something

Well of course, but that's hardly news.

It's been well-established for years that it's meant to mock those who dare to have emotions about something.

Lol. That's literally not what it means. It's a mockery of the notion that everyone is a unique a wonderful ball like a snowflake. As in "you literally believe you are special enough to have everyone cater to everything that may mildly discomfort you.". In a literal sense physically and in a figurative sense like, words that "harm" you should legally not be allowed.

I use the term to deride people that think they're unique. ie people that vote Dem 99% of the time but wont register as one (omg i totes independent), then want to bitch about closed primaries.

Others use it to attack fragility.

There are 2 different uses for sure.
