It's gonna flop because the franchise is still going. MGM is probably pissed that they sold of the home media distribution rights to Universal.

Don't see how MGM can still use the name though, plus they don't have any of the dolls and I'm pretty sure Don Mancini owns the rights to the characters.

No, a tv series is in the works plus another sequel is being made. Don Manicini isn't gonna stop when the franchise is still making money.

I can't wrap my head around this. Why not just make a new movie altogether? Or at least, if it wasn't a reboot but instead a sequel of sorts, they could at least attempt to market it as a serious sequel instead of hoping to coast on nothing but a title.

This. There is still one more chapter to go. Kyle and DeSilva can spring Andy from the hospital and stop Chucky and Tiffany once and for all.

I want a scene where Chucky is on one end of a hallway, and Kyle an Andy are on the other end. Kyle and Andy both have long knives, they look at each other, then back at Chucky, then start walking towards Chucky, which freaks him out and he runs away.

Let's recap.

Child's Play. Chucky uses voodoo to transfer his soul from the dying body of Charles Lee Ray into a Good Guy doll. Chucky then learns from his voodoo teacher that he can transfer his soul into a new body, but only to the first person who learned of his secret. Chucky is burned, shot to pieces, and finally "killed" via bullet to the heart.

Child's Play 2. PlayPal company repairs the killer doll, resurrecting Chucky in the process. Chucky manages to complete the soul transfer ritual, but it fails due to being in the doll body too long.

Child's Play 3. Chucky'a remains are recycled and remade into a new Good Guy doll. He again attempts to transfer his soul into the first person he reveals himself to. He fails and it chopped up into pieces.

Bride of Chucky. Tiffany Valentine recovers the remains of Chucky and resurrects him with more voodoo. Chucky later transfer Tiffany's soul into a Bride doll. They journey to Charles Lee Ray's grave to retrieve a magical amulet that may be used to transfer souls. The dolls do not succeed.

Seed of Chucky. The souls of Chucky's offspring, Glen and Glenda, share a body. Glen finds the bodies of theif parents are being used as movie props. Using a voodoo amulet, Glen resurrects the killer couple. Eventually, Chucky fully embaraces his immortality as a killer doll while Tiffany is successful in transferring her and her children's souls into new bodies.

Curse of Chucky. Chucky, with assistance from Tiff, is targeting people from Charles Lee Ray's past. This includes Nica Pierce, whos birth led to the events of Charles Lee Ray getting killed. Chucky is seen transferring his soul into Alice Pierce's body, Nica'a niece. Later, Chucky is still seen in the original stitched face doll failing in another attempt on Andy's life.

Cult of Chucky. Andy keeps Chucky locked up as the only way to stop him, but it is revealed that Chucky and Tiffany have learned a new voodoo spell to copy his soul into different bodies.

This was all written by the Don Mancini since the very first film. It's a continuing story that is just getting warmed up on lore building. If you cannot appreciate in a long running horror franchise then idk what to tell you. I mean, where would you have taken the story?

Don Mancini wanted to have multiple Chuckies since the original film, but the budget didn't allow it.

I'm excited to see where the story goes from here. The tv series is suppose to be an 8 part series according to Wikipedia.
