After taxes and 401k it came out to just under 1200 bucks. I know a few companies are giving bonuses but I forget who.

A handful of companies gave bonuses to their employees due to the tax cuts. Seeing as so few people know what I'm talking about I'm gonna say not many people got anything out of it.

It's a bonus some companies gave out strictly because of the tax cuts. I get a profit sharing and quality bonus every year but this isn't related to that.

Nice. If you invest that $1,000 you weren't getting before in stock that can give you 20% per year and do that for the next nine years you'll have $30,118. At 10% per year tracking the S&P 500 (which is much more doable and less risk than aiming for 20% or more with individual stock) you'll have $17,295 which is not shabby.

By that point you could make it a habit to get a couple of raises and keep contributing the $1,000 + more each time you get a raise and end up with a nice nest egg.
