It took the source material, adapted it in such a way that it was faithful to the overall tone of the franchise while not retreading plot points, and made it entertaining. I could've legitimately seen that movie as a side event that happened in the area around Raccoon City alongside the other events of the game series itself. Went downhill like hell from there, though. Obviously some more than others.
