An American accent is just talking like a normal person. Sure, you can have a Boston accent, a southern accent, etc., but the fact of the matter is that the American accent, in general, is not a thing.

Well, I dont really agree with your southern/boston argument since I would consider those variations of the American accent.

I mean you could say there are different variations of the British accent or most other accents too.

Well then there's no such thing as an "English" accent, either, since it's attributable to a certain region, city or city district by that logic.

supposedly the nuetral accent of general america is closer to the old original English accent than modern british speech is. modern british accent is said to be mutated from what it used to be. but our accent is based on what they used to sound like. cause we at one time also were talking "british" and then for some reason it stayed mostly the same but the brits changed

Nah, check out the relationship between the southern American accent and the British accent. That related British accent has been around since before the colonists and sounds way different from the standard American accent.

I thought the current British accent was a much more noble accent in the old days while the neutral accent in America was the more widespread accent in Britain.

Also, there's not just one southern accent since I've met people from Texas who talk differently than people from Louisiana. Louisiana's southern accent is probably attributed to the French in some way. Heck, Cajun is just a mutated form of the word Acadian and then there's the fact that people were calling Indians injins.

There's more than just one British accent. While the current accent might have been mostly nobles back in the day, there probably wasn't really an accent like Americans.

There were multiple country accents and dialects, many of which remain in small communities in Britain, as well as broader regional accents (e.g. Northern, Midland, Welsh, etc.).

The Cajun accent pulls more from the larger amount of French influence in the area, though they also have a separate accent similar to New Yorkers that came up completely independent of New York due to an influx of Irish and other European settlers.

Everyone has an accent depending on where they are and who they're talking to. Two people from the same region could have an accent to us but they would think nothing of it because to them, it's the 'default' accent

Their is no such thing as a British accent. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is made up of four countries.

England.
Scotland.
Wales.
Northern Ireland.

All have their own accents and England alone has loads of accents.
What Americans insist on calling a British accent is a stereotypical English accent that next to no one has.
