An FBI Study that examins the behaviour of mass shooters have concluded that almost 9 out of 10 have had NO criminal convictions and investigators found that most of the white men who obtained these guns, obtained them LEGALLY!!

Only 25% of active shooters were diagnosed "mentally ill", a low figure considering the assertion that attackers are in some way off their rockers.

The FBI said there were 30 active shootings in the US in 2017, the largest ever on record. To look at behavioural patterns, they looked at 63 cases involving suspects between 2000 and 2013.

A combined 75% of suspects obtained their firearms legally for the purpose of the attacks either by already owning guns or purchasing them to carry out the attack while others stole, robbed or borrowed guns.

The sample was overwhelmingly male with 59 out of 63 killings, 94% were carried out by men or boys and all of the mass casualties were carried out by men.

Most of them were white, 63% are white followed by 16% black. Minorities of asian, hispanic, middle eastern and native american made up the rest in that order.

There was a "limited history" of attackers committing violent crimes as adults as 89% have had no convictions of crimes against other people while 5% had felonies and 6% had misdemeanors.

There is evidence of anti-social behaviour however as 62% of had a history of abusive, bullying or oppressive to others

This report is intended to eradicate the assumption that mass shooters are mentally unwell, an assertion that is misleading and unhelpful.

Committing to carrying out a mass shooting is not a rational or "normal" thought. Something is wrong, somewhere in that persons mind.

The "25% diagnosed as mentally ill" statistic troubles me. It that diagnosed before the attack? Or is it a combination of before and after? You cannot diagnose a dead person as mentally ill, and quite a few of these shooters do not survive the event. Then you have to account for the legal system. Prosecutors do not go out of their way to get "guilty by reason of insanity" pleas, especially when it's a clear, easy path to a conviction. Another problem is that District Attorneys are elected officials, and letting a mass shooter off with an insanity plea could cost them an election. The public demands "blood for blood" in these cases.

And if that wasn't enough, it can take years to properly diagnose mental illness. The people demand swift justice. This leads to a rushed conclusion, that is most likely incorrect.

Topic title says white male shooters. Most shooters aren't mentally ill, as per this fbi study that's now been proven to be the case. There needs to be another reason why this particular subset of white male shooters exists. Apparently saying "people who are mass shooters and happen to be white and male aren't mentally ill but instead have some other issue entirely" is too offensive to you, and the cross you want to die upon?

You're the one throwing words into other people's mouths. And throwing mentally ill people under the bus to defend mass shooters isn't a good look.
