It's a bottom round beef roast, dated August 2009. It's frozen solid as a rock and has been for the past 9 years.

Well, not until we see the pictures, at least...

Read that as you found a 9 y/o in your freezer, which isn't a good place for a 9 y/o to be.

What if (s)he had cold weather gear? And it was a walk-in freezer?

And I guess it's useful if you want to escape a nuclear blast, apparently. Otherwise the air supply and ability to get back out again are also issues.

It hasn't aged enough. Put it back and wait another 9 years.

It's effectively going to be freeze-dried at this point.
Technically still edible, but it's not going to be very pleasant.

Ive always found it to be a good place to keep them. Just remember to take out the other food first, since theyll get hungry and try to eat. I learned that one the hard way.

Nah, it's just not going to have much taste and will have a horrible texture. It'll probably smell weird.

It actually smells pretty good so far, like a steak.

As long as it has remained frozen the whole time and didn't get thawed and frozen repeatedly over the years it will be perfectly safe to eat. Frozen foods remain safe to eat indefinitely as long as their temperature has been properly maintained. Not necessarily pleasant. But safe.

The thermometer says the interior is 140F, which is rare. I let it sit out for a few minutes to rest, and then began carving.

I wasn't really expecting much, since this is a bottom round, which is a pretty lean piece of meat. And it is indeed, very lean. The taste is alright, nothing at all off about it, but it is very dry and a bit tough. It probably would have done better as a pot roast or some kind of wet cooking method. Or a good long marinade.

But overall, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it.
