Except for Agents of SHIELD which revolves around a character from The Avengers it seems the connection is rather gratuitous.

That's one thing DC is doing better. Distancing it's shows from the movies.

But do the shows being (barely) part of the MCU actually detract from them, or the MCU?

Doesn't for me.

No. It really doesn't add anything at this point and just restricts both the movies and TV shows. It's not like the Netflix shows ever tie into or reference the latest movie. It's just shallow name drops these days.

DC has the better idea but they really need to get over their stupid restrictions too.

In addition to different people running the movies vs the TV shows, I think they also do this because people actually like the TV shows, as opposed to their movies. lol

But I'm all sincerity, yeah. There's no real need to connect the shows and movies. Let them be their own thing.

Just the think of TV shows as part of a EU.

Like, the movies/canon will never acknowledge them, but the EU builds off it and tells the extra stories.

I think they could do a lot with Legion after this Fox buyout if they don't fuck it up. Legion can transition into the MCU pretty well.

The sad thing is it doesn't really accomplish that either because it's so separate.

We never see how the Vulture's weapons impacted Manhattan and New York. We'll never get a TV season that deals with the consequences of Infinity War. We'll never get a Spider-man cameo. Hell we won't get a single character that is in both the Netflix shows and the movies.

The recent Star Wars movies, books and cartoons do a much better job with tying things together and still making an EU that feels important to the background of the movies.

Be interesting with Jessica Jones S3 or maybe The Punisher S2 if they anything is mentioned about the events of Infinity War though.

I don't think it'll happen. Luke Cage season 2 would have been the time to do this no? I don't think it'll suit Punisher either.

I don't think the TV and movie side really talk to each other.

They made a promise about how everything was going to be one big interconnected universe, and then they treat the shows like an adopted cousin.

Luke Cage season 2 was already filmed before Infinity War came out, so I kinda doubt it unless they throw something in at the very end of the last episode. I think Daredevil season 3 and Iron Fist season 2 are already in post production so I think it is too late for them make any kind of reference to it, but they could always do something like I mentioned above . I think they are still filming Punisher season 2 now. If there is any kind of post Infinity Wars mention it would have be in Jessica Jones season 3.

It's hard to say where the Netflix series timeline take places vs where the films are. From what I can remember from Luke Cage and Jessica Jones is that they only talk about the New York invasion from Avengers 1 and that's about it.

luke cage is a pretty big part of marvel comics stories, as is daredevil, ghost rider, and the punisher.

they play big parts of stories involving characters that are in the movies.

fans were hoping to see the two mix because they do so much in the comics. distancing them mean we'll never get the opportunity to see these characters play roles in each others' lives like they do in the comics. it's a huge letdown.

That's what I mean though. If these studios were talking and planning with each other they would have known the plot of Infinity War a long time ago and they would be planning to tie it in.

But they didn't. Like video game tie-ins for movies have more synergy than this.
