A Vote to divide California into THREE STATES will be put to the voters in November's Mid-Term elections after securing enough signtuares to be put on the ballot!!

The proposal was started by billionaire venture capitalist, 59 y/o Tim Draper who made his fortune as an investor of Skype and Hotmail and launched the "Cal 3" ballot that will now be put to the voters this Fall

With this, the central state of California would consist of counties of LA, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey and San Benito while the southern state would have Orange County, Riverside, San Bernadino, San Diego, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Fresno, Tulare, Inyo, Madera and Mono while the North would have 40 counties from Santa Cruz to the Oregon Border including San Fran, Sacramento.

But even if the voters approve, Congress and Senate would still have the final say to go ahead.

California's economy has overtaken that of the UK to become the world's 5th largest economy with 39 million people, more than the entire population of Canada

The GDP rose to 127 billion, surpassing 2.7 trillion driven by strong productivity.

Draper insists California would allow regional communities to make better and more sensible decisions such as schools, taxes and deteriorating infrastructure. This would resemble that of the Dakotas, Carolinas and Virginias

He said this unprecedented show of support of every corner of California to create 3 states has gotten bigger for better representation and reliability and regional identity

This isn't the first time that Draper tried to split California as he unsuccessfully tried for 6 states back in 2013

Robert Preston put forward of splitting California into Two because the state became "ungovernable" because of high taxes as it splits between city and rural.

If California splits, this would also make it harder for Democrats to ever make it into office as it's a solid Democratic State that they can count on for 55 electoral college votes and a split would lower their chances. The Southern Half of California is reliably Republican and would also give Republicans an easier path to victory in a election.

Texas remains the only state in the US to have never gone Democrat

Would you vote California to be split?

It's not gonna happen. I've yet to meet a single person here who's in favor of it. Unless there's a shit ton of them hiding out somewhere I don't think it has a chance in hell but we'll see I guess.

I will not be voting yes.

Yeah, split off the rich part of the state from the rest. That won't hurt the rest of us at all.

Also the guy who worked to get this on the ballot has Russian ties.

And more house reps as well, since California won't be capped at 55. The house will have to be reworked but it should be a net result of a few more Dems.

California uses a direct democracy system. If they get more than 50% of the voters on board, it's a real possibility. There's could be a silent majority in California waiting to turn the whole state upside down.

How convenient that the boundaries are set up in such a way that all three prospective states would remain blue

Looks like a ploy by Democrats to gain more control in the legislature and Presidential elections by creating a second Blue State (legal gerrymandering anyone?) and a new swing state (still leaning more Democrat than Republican).

This could also backfire spectacularly when republicans in the not-LA parts bother to show up.
Just go look at 80 and 84, when California was red as fuck.

Yep, for reasons specified in this topic. Two democrat senators turning into a potential six democratic senators.

Even as late as 1994, the general public was voting for things like this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_187

California Proposition 187 (also known as the Save Our State (SOS) initiative) was a 1994 ballot initiative to establish a state-run citizenship screening system and prohibit illegal aliens from using non-emergency health care, public education, and other services in the State of California.

of course, since then, all the working class white people have moved to Texas, Nevada, or Arizona

Its worse off either way. It would have to draft all new trade agreements across the world, with its biggest buyer in the US in no mood to negotiate on friendly terms.

"But farms and food!!"

Will move back to the midwest.
