The space I'm leaving between myself and the car in front of me is not designed for you to change lanes into. It's a safe buffer so that I can also brake adequately in case the car in front of me unexpectedly slams its own brakes.

This has been a PSA. If it helps even one of you not make a dumb fucking lane change, then it's a success.

My biggest pet peeve is when someone speeds up to get in front of you at the intersection, only to drop down below the speed limit when you are behind them. Or the assholes who on the highway slow down when there's a car next to them to keep you boxed behind them only to shoot up to 80 after passing the car so you can't go around. Them I usually go around anyways.

Imagine being such a fuckwit that you speed up or slow down to prevent someone from merging when they're doing it safely.

Worst kind of people.

TC, if you you leave an opening of 1.5 car lengths or more, that is a blatant opening for me to merge into. You're just being unnecessarily cautious. Keep in mind that the frame of the car is there to protect you in case of a collision so you should not be afraid to drive aggressively.

Just recently I was on a highway with a big crash where 3 lanes went down to 1 instantly because a firetruck was blocking the other 2. I put on my blinker and followed proper zipper protocol (the person in front of me went in front of this van, I then go behind the van) but the person there would not let me in. They tapped the acceleration so I can see the car jump forward to inches behind the van, back off a little, then jump forward again. It's not like I didn't have my signal on and I shoved myself right into the spot without warning because that lane is going slightly faster like many assholes in traffic do. I had my signal and very slowly drifted into the spot, and there is a firetruck on the road forcing me to move over.

I did get in that spot as I wouldn't give up. When the traffic was over they continued going very slow, so they weren't even in a hurry. She's the kind of person who causes traffic jams by not letting people merge.

"Here's the deal. Figure one car length for every ten miles an hour," Barndt said. "So if you're doing 55 miles an hour you should have six car lengths between you so that if something happens to the car in front of you, you have time to stop or react."

https://www.cnbc.com/id/100606306

I was going roughly 50 when this situation prompted, so one would think five car lengths per the quote above. You wanna make a lane change into a two car-length spot while going 50? Good luck.

Secondly, You trying to force a lane change into a small spot forces me to slow down to again establish safe following distance. If I let you change in front of me without slowing down myself, I go from your alleged two car lengths down to one car length. Your insistence on changing lanes so dangerously forces me to slow down. Which causes the person behind me to slow down. Ad nauseam.

I'm legitimately wondering if you're trolling here.

You're basically suggesting it's okay to be aggressive because cars these days are very safe in collisions. You're not even considering the fact that I'll now have to deal with paperwork, insurance, potentially losing cash on the crash (even if it's not my fault), time to get the car fixed, possible lasting damage to the structure of the car, and potentially insurance rates going up (again, even if it wasn't my fault).

I just have the mindset that I will drive aggressively and let others adapt to my approach. I've only been "at fault" in one of my wrecks, and that was because the other driver took too long to merge onto a highway. I don't really think I should be blamed there.

People where I live simply cannot stay in their own lane. They always hover over the inside line and Ive been using my horn so much lately that I think it may run out sometime soon.

Never pull out in front of me when Im the last car in line. I almost got T-boned by some woman who used TWO lanes to pull out of a grocery store. Unacceptable.

Some days I want to become a traffic cop.

And you're still sticking with your guns?

I've been involved in zero wrecks because I have the mindset that everyone else is going to do something fucking stupid, so I make sure to have an escape plan.

if you cut off a trucker and he hits you, insurance will side with the trucker because semi trucks cannot stop quickly. Word of caution. A trucker hit me and I lost the case because he had camera.which is bs but it makes sense. Either that or these truckers had a really good lawyer.

Also. Traveling at the speed limit isn't as safe as going the speed of traffic. If everyone is driving slow you better slow down. If everyone is driving above the speed limit you better step on the gas. Traffic law is not perfect and have adjust accordingly. Lane changing kills more people than speeding.

So why the fuck are you going out of your way to potentially increase the number of wrecks, rather than just calming the fuck down and arriving at your destination a few car lengths later than you would if you had performed the dangerous lane change?

Nobody can always avoid bad drivers, but defensive driving and "escape plans" allow you to avoid a lot.

There are shitty drivers everywhere. If you assume someone else if going to do something stupid, you'll never be surprised when they actually do.

I just have the mindset that I will drive aggressively and let others adapt to my approach. I've only been "at fault" in one of my wrecks, and that was because the other driver took too long to merge onto a highway. I don't really think I should be blamed there.

So, not only has your aggressive mindset involved you in multiple wrecks, but one of them was your very own fault?

And you're still sticking with your guns?

I've been involved in zero wrecks because I have the mindset that everyone else is going to do something fucking stupid, so I make sure to have an escape plan.

Wrecks are just something I assume will happen from time to time. I can't always avoid the bad drivers.

Can't avoid yourself.

My father had this expression when he was teaching me to drive, and it holds true to this very day:

"The most dangerous place on the road is around other people."

If other people weren't involved, driving would be as safe as walking. Sadly, there are idiots and aggressive drivers out there who ruin driving for the rest of us.

Good saying. That's why when I'm passing, I'll pass as quick as I safely can. Can't stand people just lingering in my blind spot.

Yup.
You're the only one you can trust.

This applies to all aspects of life

Lol glad my instincts of detecting trolling posts kicked in a while ago anyways

No trolling here. Like I said, collisions are inevitable. I've been in 3 that have been reported. Two of those were considered my fault (though I disagree with that judgment).

Thought you said you were only at fault for one.

Guess he's had so many inevitable collisions that they start to run together

Note how he says 3 "that have been reported" too. Guess that means there are some unreported collisions too.

You know what I also hate is when Uber / Lyft drivers think they are above the law. When I went down to the mall today there is a sign that says No Stopping, No Parking, No Unloading and the curb is painted red to indicate it is a fire lane. An uber driver was dropping off a group of passengers there. I gave him the horn and then he gave me the finger. At this pint I really should've just taken a picture then show it to the police that are conveniently in the mall to get him a citation. You do have to understand that the mall has a specific place for Uber / Lyft dropoffs.

Muffin's comments led to me remembering a single car collision. I did mention that in the topic.

If you're not a troll, why are you still trying to argue? You've gotta have enough presence of mind to understand that you admitted to being a tailgater who gets into crashes fairly regularly. You're like public enemy number one to most people on the road. Nobody is going to side with you. Might as well give up.

I believe he is trolling, there really is no other explanation
