You can't even find any decent shoes without spending at least 70~100 unless those shoes are on sale.

You can scale back on cloth, but you shoes affect your health.

No, that's actually rather cheap. Average I've seen is around $70. Depends on the style and purpose, though. Work boots can run the gamut, but tend towards $100+, more if they have steel toes, whereas your average slip-on shoes from Walmart are closer to $40.

As someone who used to buy those $40 shoes from Wal-Mart. . . . they were decent while they lasted, but that was usually only about a year. Now, I'd rather spend at least $100 on something more comfortable and that I know will last longer.

As someone who pays $200 for SAS orthopedic shoes, no. Shoes are one of those things that's worth paying extra for comfort.

I spend more on VIRTUAL shoes online.

10-20$ for footwear at home, 60-100$ for practical use at work or just outside. 200+$ if you're one of those debt ridden american college students who have to maintain an image.

The rule is to splurge on anything that goes between you and the ground.

That said, just because shoes are expensive doesn't mean they're well-made. You can take terrible shoes, slap a designer brand on them, and people will go nuts to buy them for $200+.

I generally wouldn't pay more than $50 on sneakers, since they're not built to last. (PF Flyers and Palladiums are pretty damn good in that range.) When you get outside the realm of athletic shoes, where they can be repaired and resoled, splurge. They'll last for many years.

I don't think you can even find or buy decent quality shoes for under $60

I read the topic like "is this a real question??" but then I remembered that my mom essential made $40 the limit for the shoes we could pick out from Khol's when I was younger.

But in 2018, with inflation considered, this is still a silly question. You can get a nice pair of Vans for about $45-60, but if you want athletic shoes of any kind, prepare to spend more than $80. So yeah, $40 is like the cheapest shoe you can buy from a normal shoe retailer (ie not Walmart).

Slightly off topic, but you CAN buy quality shoes at significantly lower prices. For instance, I've bought $220 laced boots from Nordstrom Rack with $100 taken off the original MSRP. You can't get much better than that.

$40 is like the average price of shitty Walmart shoes or something, so no, that's pretty reasonable. I spend $50 on my shit kickers that I don't even wear unless I'm going out in bad weather or working outside.
