"Retail giant Costco said Thursday that it would raise its starting minimum wage to $14 an hour, a $1 increase for entry level positions.

MarketWatch reported that the company will also raise wages for other hourly workers by up to 50 cents.

The changes will take effect on June 11 and are expected to affect 130,000 employees.

Costco finance chief Richard Galanti said the change is expected to cost between $110 million and $120 million annually, but that due to the new GOP tax law, the company expects a 7 percent drop in its tax rate, according to MarketWatch."

And their workers are also paying less taxes. Twice the win.

When are they going to increase their safety policy and procedures? I had to use one of those forklifts to get something down from the way up area and the box came loose and almost flattened some old broad. Plus my product was now busted, so that really burned me up.

You shouldn't really be happy that the mods here violate their position by being extremely biased and only moderating non-liberals for aggressive behavior. I thought liberals wanted equality for everyone?

Not Costco, but that's what UPS did when you were patting them on the back for increasing their pension contributions despite kicking half their existing employees off it first.

Just be warned. From what I have heard, the other employees don't take kindly to slackers. If you are a hard worker, great, you'll fit right in. However, if you like to slack and hope others do your work, they will find a way to make you quit. They don't want to risk some asshole ruining the benefits for everybody.

A lot of people think it has to do with the trump tax bill, but the federally mandated minimum wage is supposed to be $15 within the next few years (2022). Stores like CostCo that try to attract the better talent who would work these kinds of jobs from other same businesses need to be a little ahead of their competitors. There was a bump for wages this year as well ($10.50 to $11). These stores that are moving it up to compete salary wise with their competitors isn't specifically due to any tax break. If there was no trump tax bill this likely would have gone up anyhow.

Eh, after a certain extent, sure. The fact is, the cost of living is growing disproportionately to wages earned in most blue collar professions.

Healthcare and other expenses are going up. Healthcare is slated to go up at a higher rate than it would have thanks to killing the mandate without actually fixing anything.

That's what you asked for when you supported something as unsustainable as Obamacare. And it's still demonstrably true that more employers are offering more benefits now due to competition for labor.

From a forklift driver at Costco myself, those employees are idiots. Nothing should go up in the steel racking if it's unstable or unsafe/not wrapped tightly and properly.

Secondly, when dropping said product from said racking, both aisles (the one the forklift is in and the next one it's facing, in case a product falls the other way) are supposed to be completely blocked off.

You'd think, but they've put some grade A scumbags in management positions with zero people skills. At least in my warehouse and I've been there for over 10 years now. I've heard of this in several other buildings as well.

Everybody appreciates a hard worker. But slackers (again, in my experience) seem to get away with a lot. It truly takes a lot for someone to be canned or for them to stress out enough to quit. Which is what truly pisses me off because there's people who struggle to feed their families and would give their left arm for work, when we have a bunch of doughheads hanging around a receiving desk and playing on their phones seemingly every half hour.
