- Waking up from a blackout and discovering you've just murdered a guy in a diner bathroom. What do you do?
- Would you cut off a finger to save your son? What will you use to cut it off if so?
- You're trapped in a psycho killers house. How will you escape?

All of these scenes are incredibly good with player choice and making the player feel the tension. The problem with Cage is the stuff between those scenes and how they link together usually fall apart and he talks crap about emoshuns and art despite those things being the worst aspects of his games. He's good at writing bonkers scenarios that ask the player to solve or escape from.

He'd probably do a much better job at making an anthology game that have several distinct scenario episodes that are 1-2 hours long tbh. The Heavy Rain DLC could have been this but it got cancelled for crappy Move support.

He basically builds entire games and their story around a single and intense jump the shark moment, placed at such a point that you're already invested and have to see it through to the end no matter how many fleets of sharks it just jumped.

But yeah, I generally agree with what you're saying. It's just easy to focus on the bad I guess.

People hate on him a lot but I've mostly enjoyed what I've played of his. Beyond not so much but I just rented it so I didn't mind too much.

I'm quite a bit into Detroit and liking it so far.

David Cage makes great scenes that in a vacuum are great, but connect them to the rest of the game and they're flacid

I feel like that's more on you than David Cage. You can also go sing a song. You've got a ton of freedom at that point.

the problem is that for some stupid fucking reason david cage decided the entire game should be played out of order, so the player has no context as to how she even got in that situation in the first place

for what it's worth detroit is infinitely better than beyond two souls, that game is just utter trash

A good scene out of a crap game does not make the game great.
Especially when that one great scene is sandwitched between hours of shit.

I do feel like at times he has a tendency to pull something out his ass, a couple instances especially he'll hide plot information from a player but not the character you're controlling (kinda the equivalent of a TV show character whispering something into the protagonist's ear that we aren't made privy to).

But, I enjoy his games. Detroit: Become Human is definitely his best so far -- loved the main trio and was emotionally invested in all of them. I know it's cool to not appreciate graphics but as ever they are stunning and a real treat.

EDIT: One of the coolest main menus of all time to boot.
