Lul yeah the original says nothing about no written briefing penis. But bah I find Korean news pretty hard to read >.> Too many words I don't know

The google translate is honestly actually really good, though the first line is saying something along the lines of "President Moon to report on the result of meeting," sorta written in a non-complete sentence. The third line is more along the lines of "President Moon met with Kim Jong Un at this and that place and that time, revealed Yoon Young Chan at the briefing"

Everything else is basically ok

It's actually the opposite in terms of grammar. Korean grammar is very different than English and more similar to Japanese. Chinese grammar is like English but even simpler. The complexity of the writing system does not matter to a computer. If anything Chinese writing is easier for a computer because it disambiguates homophones.

As I pointed out above that has nothing to do with translation difficulty. A computer instantly knows the meaning of any combination of characters. Grammar is the difficulty in translating.

The funny part is Korean is actually one of the hardest languages to machine translate into English and Chinese is one of the easiest, but some random people here apparently think they are experts and think a computer somehow struggles more looking up a word in its dictionary if it is written phonetically instead of in Chinese character when the opposite is true. Chinese characters are still used in Korean to disambiguate words because by their nature they allow more precision than strict phonetic encoding. This is one benefit to English spelling many homophones differently, it allows you to disambiguate (to, too, two, their, they're, there, etc.).

But yes I will acknowledge I'm wrong about the reasons why Korean translation seems to work out well enough.

For a machine translating to English it is easy due to the grammar. Microsoft neural translator is at human quality already.

Posting 4 character idioms is basically trying to break translation. English idioms break translation too, because by their nature they do not follow the normal rules of the language. It's hilarious that you are resorting to this though. Obviously massive input of 1 to 1 conversions for 4 character idioms will be required. I find it funny that you think writing that out phonetically would somehow make it easier to translate when the results would be the exact same words just more ambiguous because it could be other words with the same reading as well. It's very weird you think this is an actual argument.

Traditional converts to simplified automatically using a variety of programs, sadly you cannot go to the other one automatically due to character reductions (like to ).

No. You are completely misunderstanding the nature of an idiom. If I write pearls before swine in English and translate it literally to Chinese they will literally get pearls before swine. Great it translated it correctly. Except that isn't what pearls before swine means because it's an idiom. So you post an idiom and complain because it translated it literally instead of giving you the dish you wanted. Which I always thought was so either you made a typo or it is some rare variant I am not aware of.

heck, have you even try to google translate "pearls before swine" to chinese, then translate it back to english multiple times?

That makes no sense. How would you writing Chinese incorrectly be due to Google Translate? You wrote the wrong characters to begin with. It's the name of a dish and it's an idiom so it doesn't translate to English correctly, but what you wrote isn't even a thing. I am not sure how you wrote since it seems you don't actually know Chinese.

Again how does any of this lead to you writing ? You clearly thought that was the name of the dish. Of course I know what is already, I figured it out after realizing you wrote the wrong thing. The question is how Google translate made you write tongue instead of dry. They aren't similar characters in either their sound or composition so how did that happen?

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/dcxmq/fuck_the_duck_until_exploded/
first comment, they said it's translated as tongue explotion duck, and then i translate it to chinese with google.

if youre asking do i speak chinese? no, not at conversational level. but it even makes my position more legit as someone who want to know the meaning of chinese words, the google translation are far from perfect.

if you try to dismiss me with something like "lol you dont even know chinese", that makes you stupid because the very purpose of the translation machines is to make it understandable to those who didnt speak/read chinese.

That person's comment is wrong. It isn't tongue. It's dry. You should not use random Reddit posts as evidence. You clearly don't know what you are talking about and it's quite embarrassing for you. It's dry exploded duck. That's the literal translation and it's a piss poor example because it is not meant to be taken literally so it makes just as much sense in either language. It is based on the appearance of the dish itself since it contains duck that is dry and shredded into pieces so it looks like it blew up everywhere.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about. The machine doesn't make an error. It translates it literally in a correct way. The problem is there is no way to express that dish in English. What would you want it to mean? It's so weird you are arguing over a food item when that same food item exists in Korean and yields the same translation. So what is the point? You can literally write it in the exact same characters in Korean because either used to be written with Chinese characters as well until the 70s. So it's kind of pointless since it is the same just written in different scripts. You seem to think a computer has trouble reading characters when it's all just data. It never thinks dry was actually tongue. A human does because they aren't a database, they might have bad character recognition like that Reddit user. The problem is the food dish isn't meant to be taken literally. Just like a milk shake isn't milk that you shook up.

This just makes you seem even more ignorant. Pinyin is an IME to allow you to get Chinese characters on a machine. It is not a translation it's an input method, you have to have a human manually pick the right character when using it. And Google never produced the translation from that picture. What the hell are you talking about. You can check it yourself, I wrote the dish here and it translates it literally. And pinyin cannot be translated accurately because it is ambiguous. It doesn't differentiate between characters that sound the same.
