The thing with the Switch is that it works because Nintendo consolidated everything into it. If they still had another console or another handheld it wouldn't be as successful. Their output would be spread out and divided which goes against the point of a hybrid.

Sony couldn't really maintain this balance when it made sense. They always shove their B-Teams onto their secondary platforms. I doubt they'd make the PS5 a hybrid so this will always be a secondary thing for them. I don't think it's as simple as making a divide that huge and they won't be able to enforce developers to make games 4k/60fps on the home console.

Looks like Ill be getting an Xbox ____ next gen. God damn it. Ive been switching between these two brands every gen. Wish I could stay consistent.

After the success of the PS4 I doubt they'll do anything to rock the boat for the PS5.

If they make Vita 2.0 it will be its own thing that can dock to the TV.

I don't really think it will happen though.

Considering all of the work Microsoft has done with emulation and BC I'd actually think they'd benefit from something like it more. But I doubt they'll bother either.

Their Xperia devices and any Windows PC can already do this but I suppose they're not a portable so maybe they could do something that's dedicated to it. I don't think that would sell very well though. It would just be an accessory really.

I don't use the portability of the Switch at all so this would be wasted on me with the PS5, the biggest kicker though is having to pay for the privilege of a feature you don't use that also limits the system's graphical and processing capabilities. I'd definitely like cheaper, non-portable options if this became a thing with other major platforms.

I think the most likely outcome for a "PS Switch" would be an eGPU setup which would allow it to be an upgrade over the PS4 while docked and most likely on-par with it while undocked(which is plenty of performance for a portable). I'm just not aware of any x86 setup that would provide the kind of performance Sony would need while also being low-power enough to work in a 2-in-1 style device, unless AMD has some next level shit in their labs right now.

I doubt they'll do that tbqh. Ps4 is definitely showing its limitations lately. Pro is OK, but it's a good bit behind the one x too

It was already getting to perfection with the Vita/PS4 combo. All the lower budget games can be completely cross-compatible between the two formats so they're not held hostage on either side, but if you want a game that is too demanding to be portable just make it console only, with the ability to stream to the portable system. Completely combining them like the Switch just gimps both sides.
