I know this isn't a black or white issue for some games like Mass Effect, Sim or Skyrim where you create your own characters as well as games like Mortal Kombat or This War of Mine where there is no main chatacter.

Then there's things like that one Dishonored 2 DLC where you play as Billie Lurk who they retconned as black which sort of counts but... It's a seperate DLC... So is she the main character?..

So for the sake of argument those don't count. It has to be a real clear cut "main character" of a game, undeniably. Or at least mention if it's a caveat.

Only ones off the top of my head are Nilin from Remember Me, Aveline from that Assassin's Creed spin off game everyone hated and Jade from Beyond good and evil.

But it gets choppy even then as the developers of Beyond Good and Evil have adamently denied that Jade is black so even she doesn't really count.

So there's only two? And only 1 from a main game of note? Why are there so few black female leads in gaming? Have I just missed them? I mean look at classic characters like Samus, Lara Croft, Emily Hartwood, Jill Valentine, Penelope, Regina etc

Notice a pattern?

I was honestly having a hard enough time thinking of several black female characters to begin with, before I saw you said black female main characters.

0 because the gaming companies seem to think an attractive black female sports afros and can throw around men twice their size for no reason.

There's a lot of black supporting women

Like Jade from Mortal Kombat, Sheva from Resident Evil, That chick from Psyconaunts who has that fucked up easter egg.

Hell even Lara Croft had a black female support character...

And a black male one ...

And come to think of it they were both like engineers.... That's weird.

It's sort of the Lex Luthor debate all over again.

But they certainly made her blacker in Dishonored 2 as part of their "progressive" thing like they made half the cast gay.
