For all the shit cities get, I find small towns unbearable. Things like lack of privacy as everyone knows everyone, boredom, lack of opportunity, and loneliness, and extensive drug addiction not fun. I know cities also have some problems that I just listed but it seems magnified significantly in small towns. Since the world is only getting more and more globalize and more urban, I can't really see a lot of small towns surviving. Am I right or am I wrong? I know a lot of people come from small towns and I know a large majority of them never go back there again.

I live in a small town, and it's very much like TC says. There is also the idea among the residents that their little town is an island in the center of the universe, and that nothing exists outside of the county line. Don't bother trying to get a job here, because you come from somewhere else, so your application goes straight into the trash. And even though the town is rotting, don't dare suggest changing or updating ANYTHING, because liberals or whatever. Keep everything the same forever, as dictated by the five people that run everything that happens here, no matter what it is, they are in charge, and that's final.

Rural Minnesota has been dying at a rapid pace the past decade. I used to love going up to the small town my grandparents lived at as a child, but it's a remarkably depressing place now. It's fucking heartbreaking.
