Ok, so my original plan was this:
Step 1: Work as a Vacuum Truck Driver,(72k a year) get at least a year of experience(I'm at 10 months or so), then get hired on as a Kill/Pump Truck driver(about 80k a year)

Step 2: Work as a Kill/Pump Truck Driver for about 3 years(I originally thought you needed about 10 years experience to move onto step 3, but I talked to a guy who hires Reverse Unit Operators, and he told me that as long as I know what I'm doing, 2-3 years is enough experience to get hired on), then hopefully move onto step 3.

Step 3: Hopefully get hired as a Reverse Unit Operator(makes about 150k a year).

So here's the new thing. Apparently some company is hiring people as a Hydrovac Operator at around 85k a year, which goes upto around 90k a year after a year of working there. Then if I work there for a few years, I can go up to around 120k a year. Only thing is, I'll most likely be putting way more hours for this job compared to being a Reverse Unit Operator.

So if I put in the work and time, I can potentially make more and work less, but the other one is kind of guaranteed money.

Steady cash flow is almost always better than an erratic one. Life is about planning before it's about money. being able to plot out your finances accurately is a more important thing to do than to seek out higher risk/higher reward situations. I know people who bring in $35,000 a year and still lead better lives than people making twice as much because they know how to manage it.

Sorry for getting slightly off topic, but I felt compelled to give the reasoning behind my answer.

I actually wanted explanations, but I guess that's the downside of putting a poll in your topic.

Do the one you want not counting the money since they are pretty close, the 30k (when you still make over 100k) a year isn't worth being completely miserable

I haven't done either yet, but here's the thing:
The Reverse Unit Operator works less, but has more responsibilities. The RUO is the Company Man's right hand man and is basically second in command at any Pulling Unit. If something goes wrong and the Company Man's not there, the RUO gets screwed. Also, it could be dangerous, because if you mess up, you'll have huge(like 40ft long) rods fly out of the well, and potentially kill someone.
