Probably a good idea to show up 15 minutes early or so, that way if theres an abundance of people you can seperate into groups by team to maximize the number of premier balls everyone gets

Its my first. My university has a lot of people who play, but the raid isnt until the 14th, and with classes ending on Tuesday, Im worried not enough people will show up to win.

Might want to see if your area has a a local Facebook group or discord for coordinating raids

Mewtwo doesn't take many to defeat. Just show up for the time window and you'll bump into people and get in a group

Oof. Looking at online sources on how to beat an EX raid..... I dont have any of the Pokmon that are effective. My strongest guy is like 1550 CP <_<

Well, I used to be a Pokemon Trainer like you, but then I got a tick behind the knee. =(

That Machamp raid was so not worth it. Caught a junk IV Machamp, although I did get 2 Fast TMs for my effort. At this point seriously tempted to avoid non-EX parks due to the risk of ticks.

You don't really need to do much, there are usually like 20-40 people who get passes. Also, if your strongest Pokemon is only 1550 CP, Mewtwo will be your new strongest if you catch him since iirc he starts at around 2200 CP (assuming you don't get a weather boost)

At this point I'm really just looking for high IV ones to power up. I'm currently doing pretty good for candy (900+), thanks to these Machop-heavy promos lately (although I haven't had many weather-boosted ones worth evo'ing)

Theres a good app called poke genie that works by you taking an in game screenshot from Pokemon Go and then using it in the poke genie app to give you the IV

Was going through my Machop pile (manually; I don't use an app like genie) and discovered I had a 98% lv15 (only drawback? 14 atk), so I evo'd it (wrong moves, because of course it evo'd with the wrong moves) and then powered it up. Need a charge TM (or several) to fix it, but now I have two 98% Machamps so I just need... well a bunch more near-perfect Machamps. In the mean-time, still have filler.

I still don't have one. A month ago, I seen some people stationed at a gym near the Heroes Memorial going after Mewtwo but I didn't have an EX Raid Pass to join them and I still don't have one. :(

I solo'd two raids today and got myself two new pokes. Exeggutor and Sableye. I'm also only 1 stamp away from getting my chance as a Zapdos.

Still need 8 ghosts and a ditto to continue my Mew search, though.

Exeggutor is pretty useful, especially if you missed out on Frenzy Plant Venusaur.

If you do a lot of soloing, you're going to care about IVs a lot because they can make the difference between winning and losing.

Yeah this isn't going to get you far with teams and raiding

You should wait until you're 30 to worry about evolving or powering up. But you should care about only putting your resources into great Pokemon.

I don't battle in gyms ever (unless the research tasks ask me to) and I only do raids for pokemon I don't have. So far I've been able to take 1 and 2 star raids on my own. A few of my friends, my girlfriend, and I go pokegoing about once a week, and together we've taken 4 star raids without tooooo much trouble (but they're all a lot better than me/care more), so I don't expect the legendary raids to be much harder. And if they are, maybe I'll get lucky!

FYI, the Zapdos encounter from your research CAN NOT FLEE

So you dont have to worry about it running away, you get as many chances as you want as long as you have pokeballs. Because of this its a really good idea to use pinap berries to double the candy you get from the eventual catch

This is because their candy is harder to get(you have to walk with them as a buddy for 20km just to get a single candy) and legendaries are in general the most powerful for raids

Raiding more regularly will help you do raids for Pokemon you don't have, considering you can get rare candies and TMs as rewards.

Legendary raids are generally far harder than t4s. Absol can be duo'd without too much trouble. TTar is duoable with some difficulty. Aggron can be trio'd (or duo'd if you have the stars align perfectly). So far, the only legendary that's kinda easy with a small group is Rayquaza (who was reportedly duo'd), but that's only because his defense is junky and he's got a double-weakness.

Also just got a second shiny meditite, this one with actually decent CP (my first one was at 77, woulda been a massive waste of stardust to power up since medicham generally sucks). This one had 374, so I evolved it immediately and it got Counter and DynamicPunch, which generally seems to be its best moveset, but its IVs are shit lmfao

I still don't have the new shinies and, no matter what, it's a waste to power up Medicham.

Unless it's a B/C Gyarados (and a legacy Gengar), I don't expect any of those to do much damage >_> On the upside, turnout is usually good enough that you don't need to worry about dealing damage.

Legacy Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball Gengar, 1 Gyarados is Dragon Tail and Crunch. Theyre both like level 32.5, but really Ill probably just be doing chip damage and throwing sacrifices at Mewtwo.

I only have 1 charged and 1 quick tm, so Im also avoiding using those unless Im trying to salvage something thats both rare for me and its a meta mon from being complete ass (Ive got an 11/15/13 TTar with Iron Tail and Fireblast, but its level 20 and I dont generally have to deal with psychic types around here so Ive felt no drive to make that the lotto mon).

I'm assuming that the actual turnout will be higher than that. As for whether it's doable, that depends on the participants. I assume you'll be fine, though.

On the plus side, Mewtwo is also easier to catch than other legendaries. He has a base 6% catch rate (instead of the usual 2%) and, personally, I seem to have an easier time hitting excellent curve throws on him.

And, unlike other legendaries, he doesn't seem to be going anywhere so there's not too much about to worry about even if you somehow don't get him this round. (Although it's possible he might get switched for Deoxys at some point -- if so, I'll kick myself for not rescheduling IRL stuff to do another EX raid or two for a better IV one; mostly because it feels wasteful to power things under 93% past lv30 given the huge investment)

In other news, I have the dreaded "3 excellent throws in a row" research. Tempted to discard it since I'm not sure how long it's going to take me to do that, but I really could use more Larvitar candy.... of course, if it turns out to be an Onix, that's going to be a giant "fuck you." Not sure why 3 excellents only gives Larvi yet the harder 3 in a row is Larvi or Onix.

And I still haven't had the coveted hatch 5 eggs research that can give a Chansey. Also placed a Blissey at a gym I don't really use so I can mass-feed it berries to rank up my badge (even though I have no real intention of doing anything with the gym) while the event is still going.

I thought the chance of an onix was debunked? Regardless what I do with a quest like that is save up all my research encounters since those pokemon dont flee and several of them have big hitboxes
