Who is this guy? Why is he talking to me? Do I know him? No...pretty sure I don't. But does he know me? Is he going to be insulted if I dont remember him?

Oh! I'm wearing a Millenium Falcon t-shirt. I totally forgot. To be honest I just through this on. Should I talk to him? Is he expecting a conversation?

That doesnt make any sense! We're in the parking lot of a Wal-mart! He's leaving and I'm going in. A conversation would be inconvenient for both of us. But still, if he took the time to compliment my shirt, it would be couteous to acknowledge him.

But what do I say? Do I simply agree that Star Wars is cool? Or do I say something specific? "A lot of people think Return of the Jedi is the weakest of the trilogy, but I always thought everything on Tatooine or after Vader abducts Luke is outstanding, with only a slight lull when they first get to Endor"

What? No! That wont make any sense, how does that logically flow from a Millenium Falcon t-shirt? Maybe "Han Solo is the man!"

Why'd I even come out today? Or at least wear my Junes t-shirt. Nobody in this city knows what Persona 4 is. Though if a stranger were to strike up a conversation based on my shirt, I wish it were Persona instead of Star Wars.

Oh no! We're about to cross paths! Gotta think of something to say!

"Um...okay."

In college my roommate saw a guy with a megadeth shirt. He complimented the guys shirt and he shrugged and said "they're ok I guess".

As someone who enjoys brief social interaction but is terrible at breaking the ice, I relish the fact that some of my t-shirts do that job for me. So far the Ghostbusters shirt is the top earner (and thank god people have totally forgotten the 2016 version already), followed by a Blues Brothers T-shirt, followed by a really nice Legend of Korra tshirt I found.

I've stopped wearing sports logos for this reason. I couldn't go out without people talking to me about the Penguins or Steelers. Or even the Pirates, and I don't even watch baseball.

I thought I was safe with my Nottingham Forest shirt. Surely in the outskirts of Pittsburgh I'm not going to draw attention with a second tier English football club. But I went to a brewpub on Friday night and three people started talking to me about it. Fuck.

The appropriate response is "Live long and prosper." Any true Star Wars fan would already know that.

Im stretching for humor, but I actually do have OCD and it plays a pretty big role in my social anxiety. Though it usually comes after the social interaction as my brain is constantly trying convince me that everything I did was terrible. >_>

In any event this topic was meant as a joke. In real life, it wasnt a wal-mart, but a college campus. And I didnt have this thought process during the encounter, but during the drive home. Hahahaha

OCD would be if you felt compelled to do that every time it happened and if you don't then horrible things will happen.

Which is exactly what goes down. If it didnt, I wouldnt waste my car rides thinking about meaningless crap that makes me feel bad. >_>This isnt even the primary or worst manifestation of it tbh. Fun things in life:

Constantly deleting and re-entering passwords before logging in anywhere

Interrupting reading or pausing games to handle intrusive thoughts.

Not eating because the fear that beginning to eat with trigger intrusive thoughts

Closing/reopening doors, closests, windows, or flipping switches or turning on and off the car ignition multiple times, or walking backwards out of doorways i already entered only to enter them again

Handwashing after my hands touch anything

Throwing away untouched food and going hungry because some trivial non-detail convinced my brain it was contaminated

Backtracking in video games and repetively replaying parts I already completed, or discarding save data, because i didnt handle intrusive thoughts properly and by accepting that progress it would be like accepting those thoughts

The slightest whiff of gas triggering panic attacks

The insane thought that, if i left my bottled drink in the car while I was in the store, some maniac could have broken into the car and poisoned it

And the list goes on. But please, by all means, tell me more about the mental illness that has plagued me for the last 20 years of my life >_>

Sounds like PTSD the way you describe the intrusive thoughts.
