She suffered a stroke in 2013 when she was 20 years old and the right side of her face was left paralyzed after a cluster of blood cells burst in her brain She used to win beauty pageants in California and said her life turned upside down after the stroke..she said "I looked in the mirror and i saw my face for the first time and i was shocked. I felt that my identity was completely gone..but now i feel like i can look like myself again after this surgery" Her twin sister, Sophia and their father started rehabilitationbefore turning to school and getting her degree. She says "There's so much more beyond that, behind that, that makes you a valuable person.i was able to focus on what life really meant" Sophia researched facial re-animation procedures as Julia had an 8 hour surgery at UCSF Medical centre where doctors plan to insert part of her thigh muscle to the right side of her face which will hopefully get her to smile and breathe normally again. Pretty easy to feel like your identity is gone when what makes up a good chunk of your profile was distorted in a stroke. People look at you different, you probably aren't the same after a stroke, and you can kinda tell the person in the mirror isn't the same person as before. And not in a good way. But one night in May, in my final year in college, I fell asleep in a bad position while watching some SyFy and studying for finals. It hurt like a motherfucker when I woke up but I guess I suffered minor permanent Bell's Palsy. My face on the right side is about 5-10% droopier. No one can ever notice, not even doctors unless I tell them to concentrate. It only shows fucked up in pictures. No one has ever mentioned it to me, but the mirror and pictures show it all.
