I enjoyed it a lot. It's not as out-there or as controversial as it originally looked, and it definitely plays like the other recent Far Cry games, but it's definitely entertaining.

This is a major positive, really. I read one review that docked it points for "not using it to bash Trump when it had the opportunity to" and that almost convinced me to buy the game at full price. Why must EVERYTHING have a political message? I like it much better when it doesn't and instead has a moral of the story - a life lesson that can apply to anyone. Even better when it's about entertainment like it's supposed to be.

I haven't played any of the Far Cry games before. I'm not big on Duty Calls type FPSes but the ones that have the over-the-top action stuff are fun. Far Cry 5 looks more over-the-top and thus more entertaining. Thanks :)

It's fine, but...I'd say it ranks last in terms of modern Far Cry games. Villain wise it's a huge disappointment, since they spread the one charismatic villain standard they've built between a bunch of different sub villains, and as such none stand out. Also a lot of the gameplay changes especially around upgrading are for the worse.

Also it's a an absolute buggy nightmare. It is minutely less broken than launch Assassin's Creed Unity. FC games aren't exactly known for polishing out all the kinks, but this one is on another level.

At the end of the day, though, if you're a fan of the series.....sure is another one.

Shame the story got neutered. Or worse, it was this all along and they just pretended it was something more.

If you haven't played an FC game before then this shouldn't be the one you get. FC4 is just better on every front and is obviously much cheaper.

I've seen others say this as well. Is this a concern with the multiplayer? I don't know what all that has to offer (I've heard outpost capturing is the best part). And I know FC5 is the first to have any sort of character customization. I presume that's not very relevant in a first-person game, but... it's always nice to have.

Thanks for your insight, of course. I might have to wait until it's cheaper and patched to get this one and settle for 4 in the interim...

I would agree that 3 and 4 are definitely more bang for your buck.

Multiplayer...I think I watched someone play that onece. It's an incredibly inconsequential part of the game. There's co-op stuff in the open world which is pretty good but really just for docking around, and that's friends list stuff so how active it is doesn't really matter. Honestly forgot the mission based multiplayer stuff even existed until you just brought it up.

FC really need to evolve, because this really shouldn't be the case but it just is. Primal and BD threw coats of paint onto the same stuff. These are good games, but you can only make the same good game over and over so many times, we aren't in the NES era anynore. Primal already was a game too far, and nownthey've gone two games too far.

FC2 is great.
FC3 is great.
FC4 is probably great but I played it too close to FC3 and got burnt out very early
FC Primal is fuckin' dope but no guns so it's a little different

Haven't touched 5 yet.

Then you prob shouldn't buy the one game that has been widely marketed as a political commentary for months

I won't pretend part of my issue with FC5 isn't it being the physical manifestation of a coward.

And even on basic FC levels of story it falls flat on it's face, too, so it actually ended up being worse than saying nothing. It's a major decline for FC4 on that front.

I'm not a crybaby like you, fool.

I just hate how over-politicized our entire culture has become. It's so negative and nasty that I prefer to escape from it, not engage in it. How does that make me a crybaby in any way?

It was pretty enjoyable, though I have many misgivings about certain plot elements, namely being sniped (even while flying airplanes or doing other missions) with magic drug bullets so you can be kidnapped 10+ times.
