I need an escapism from the harshness of reality and the nostalgic simplicity of Nintendo Labo looks appealing. Whether that is just because of the advertisements being outside the realm of reality or not is difficult to discern.

Is this worth the investment? And if so, is the Variety Kit or the Mech Pack the better option?

It is $60 cardboard. What's cool about it is the software and how it engages with the Switch hardware. I suppose; I didn't buy it either.

Seems like the sort of thing that would actually be the coolest fucking thing in the world if you were a kid and had a parent footing the bill.

This is why I ask. It's easy to question the reality of its ingenuity when it is simply utilizing cardboard to play a piano, go fishing, shoot a crossbow, etc. Is it a representation of a nostalgic simplicity or quite the opposite - boring due to its simplicity? It reeks of misleading advertising and major disappointment with the actual product.

I do hope this is a longstanding IP for Nintendo that develops beyond the simplicity it currently has. Could you imagine the places they could go with this? But perhaps, right now, it's not enough to warrant dropping the price on.

I'm thinking. Thanks.

Perhaps this is why it has a certain nostalgic simplicity to it. That said, I am not young anymore, which means I must pay myself...

If you still have an imagination and the patience to go with it, it seems like it's worth it

I've heard it takes like 5 hours to build the robot one

tbh building a master grade Gundam that's half the price might be cooler, even if I don't get to stomp virtual things with it. (I wonder how long it takes for that to get old, though)

^I presume that's because the robot gets old after stomping on things for two hours. Paying $70 for seven hours doesn't make any sense. Really poor value. A $60-70 game should warrant at minimum thirty hours of enjoyment - a $2/hour rate is pretty fair imho.

Most games are longer than seven hours. Some of those that are only that short are worth replaying.

What I am saying is that if I am going to pay full price for a game that it better either be 30 hours long (including multiplayer) or damn worth replaying. Otherwise I just wait until it's cheaper. I only have so much fun money!

It's funny becasue you are bringing way too much harshness and thought to this decision of if something is fun or not.

If you want to escape, just do something. You are already spending too much time on the analytical process and you won't enjoy yourself. This is not escape and rather you are forcing yourself right in the middle of reality (Through your own doing). The complete opposite of what you want to do.

Then allow me to correct you. I don't judge games by the $/hour. I judge when to buy games based on $/hour unless I really want them. Even then, I'll wait if it's a really steep price.

Nintendo is an anomaly, of course, so I don't see Labo dropping in price any time soon unless it's an Edsel. After all, $10/hour is not at all reasonable unless that's a really fucking phenomenal seven hours. It's price relative to length AND quality.

Basically, this topic was asking if the game is worth its steep price for its content level.

...touch. I'm not really dwelling on this topic, though, as much as I tend to over-analyze things.

Perhaps I should just leave work early and have a good fucking Friday. What do ya think, Dave & Buster's maybe?
