Mal: no one reads the articles I post
Also Mal: I dont read the articles I post

Where exactly did they say Kanye was alt-right? Read the article and they didnt say that.

Stop being dense. Calling someone an "alt-right darling" is calling them alt-right.

Post the quote, please.

Kanye West was having a great weekend, until he wasnt. One moment, the rapper-producer-entrepreneur was dispensing pearls of pseudo-philosophy on Twitter to the retweets of adoring observers. The next, many of those same admirers had turned to denouncing him instead. Oh, and he had become an alt-right darling. Whatever West is going through at the moment, the response to his Twitter spree reveals more about the people who have fled from him and those whove flocked to him, too.

It's clear the article was not calling Kanye alt right, that it was just pointing out that Kanye has ingratiated himself to them.

Buuut Mal needs his daily dose of fake outrage to complete his pretty good life.
If the article, for the sake of debate, is saying West is aligning himself with or the alt-right is aligning with him, the claim is he fits it/wants to be associated with them, and therefore is by a good chance is alt-right himself. That said, it's best to hear it from West's mouth himself as to what party he aligns himself with.

But then again Mal isn't the only one needing attention and outrage to complete his day.

Talk about splitting hairs.

There's a distinction. I hate to be you and resort to whataboutism, but

Donald Trump ingratiated himself to Neo-Nazis, yet you throw a hissy fit if anyone calls Trump alt right. There's a clear distinction there in your eyes, no?

Actually, if he's currently supported by the alt-right, I would agree that it makes him an "alt-right darling". He clearly is not a member of the alt-right, and doesn't seem to hold beliefs they would usually agree with. In spite of this, members of the alt-right are currently flocking to him because he expressed a belief they agree with. That is what the article is trying to draw attention to when they say he is a darling of the alt-right.

What is the functional difference when it comes to alt-left hysteria between calling him an alt-right darling and part of the alt-right?

Isn't Kanye part of the alt-right now far as the left-wing is concerned, if he's their precious darling?

They're clearly playing the guilt-by-association game, as usual. Since they've labelled him as being related to the alt-right he is now supposedly discredited. That's the message/propaganda they're sending.

The articles, to me, reads like this:

Here are 5-6 things that Kayne said/did that made a bunch of conservatives on Twitter happy. With those things in mind, plus Kanye doing X, Y, and Z, some liberals on Twitter and some of his liberal fan base have 'recoiled' from him.

That seems a bit different than what you are suggesting in the OP.

Yeah, the article even shits on leftists a bit for virtue signaling on party lines

But the moment West expressed his approval of Owens, liberals recoiled. Eager to signal their lefty credentials, they withdrew their support the moment West went against the party line.

Mal just seems overeager to find something to be outraged about

I noticed that too. It wasn't exactly a nice article for anyone.

This isn't new. The alt-right, and you, live for pitiful gotchas and using tokens to lash out against demographics that they usually despise. It's why before BP came out the alt-right were bashing the movie for starring a black cast, then loved the movie again based off a quick Wikipedia read of Wakanda, then back to bashing it again once the movie was released and they had a chance to see it. Hell, the same exact concept is why Milo even has any support amongst those circles. You and the alt-right constantly love saying that he can't be homophobic because he's gay and that he can't be racist because he's married to a black man. So you see Kanye say some nonsense on Twitter and you point to black people and you say "see, told you so" despite Kanye's entire discography and musical career saying something different.
