Plus it kinda sucks how they keep giving you those optional fights with enemies like triple your level. Like, really?

Do all side quests

By the chapter you're at in the game, start the game and don't press anything

There's the cutscene with vashyron. You'll know who the other person is by now. And then don't press anything for another few minutes. You'll see a cut scene with cardinal Rowen and it sets up the entire game.

You'll then have to beat the optional post game area to get one tiny bit of information

THEN play through one more time and the subtext in the scenes you missed out on will change a ton of the story. Basically, it's only after you beat the game and have that knowledge that you'll be able to figure out those unspoken things going on in scenes. Especially the ones of the cardinals.

Basically, in true tri ace fashion, they want you to 100% play through the game to truly experience it all

One of my favorite platinum trophies for sure

i never beat that game but from what i hear the main trio are actually pretty unconnected to the main plot
they just screw over everything for the bad guys at the last minute
