It's why Armenians care about the genocide of their people (and that Turkey outright ignores that it happened). It is something I see as bad (duh), but it doesn't evoke any actual feelings from me beyond "that sucked." None of this stuff does, because I can't relate. The only major victimization my ancestors really suffered came at the hands of the Russians, who would have probably put them in gulags if they hadn't fled west. My family never harboured any ill will towards the Russians though, at least as far as I can see, they just started over and made something of themselves again in new places. It's a hallmark on human history. The exact point that we turned our collective progress and innovation on its side and decided to use the amazing machines we had built to try and wipe out 17 million innocent people.
