Poll of the Day > about to start final fantasy ix for the first time. what should i know?

almost done with iv and have ix already downloaded and ready to go on the ps4. what should i know before starting? feel free to post spoilers like if some character dies and you shouldnt bother leveling them up like in vii

Can't think of too much. Stealing is generally pretty useful and a bunch of places get blocked off at the start of disc 4.

I actually don't remember a ton about IX except that it has a ton of side quests. Like I think there were like 30 or so you could complete before you even got done with disk 1.

The only characters you lose access to, you lose in the opening segment of the game, so no real loss there.

There is a point in the game where you have to split into two parties. If I remember right, one area is heavily anti magic, the other heavily anti physical. That is is only "roadblock" segment I can think of in the game.

I guess the major thing is that abilities are learned from equipment, so make sure you learned the ability you want from a weapon, etc before selling it off.

Make sure you do the jump rope thing and collect many cards as you can

If youre doing the Mognet side quest, know that it goes from the very first save moogle to near the end of the game, and some are missable.

Haste is worthless because of how fucking slow every animation is.

Ozma is the easiest regular enemy in the game and you definitely want to avoid using dark armour on it.

Unless you're playing on PSX and have a GS, don't even worry about Excslibur II.

Someone does pretend to die so they can join your party. Garnet > Dagger.

Eventually you'll be able to have auto-regen, auto-haste and auto-life. It's great but super OP.

Compared to it's "inferior" predecessor it's ATB was bastardly broken, Limit Breaks were replaced with the unreliable Trance, and the card game was feakin' nonsense!

That said, I love the world's general design. Plus, the main characters were more than yet another orphaned pretty teenager in military school.

Just be prepared for an ATB that takes a long time to load, causing fights to take longer than youd think. Personally, I get used to it pretty early into the game, but I know its a common gripe for a decent number of people.

Really fun game though, memorable characters too. Have fun!
