You know why nobody ever says this about anyone on the right? Because being critical of one's own group has been commom practice amongst the right for a very long time now. The entire Libertarian party exists specifically for that purpose.

The left is so used to being a gigantic conglomerate of people with no introspection and self awareness, that when they finally started doing this a few years ago it was a shock to everyone.

The joke "the right is eating itself again" wouldn't even make sense because debate and introspection is a core part of the majority in the right. That's the reason that there's such a wide range of beliefs on topics on the right, particularly within the Libertarian party.

How do you reconcile this belief with the fact that the Green Party has until recently done better than the Libertarian Party? Doesn't that suggest defection from the main is in fact more common on the left? (To say nothing about like, PSL or the various left-wing non-voters.)

Libertarians comprise 10-20% of the population. This is 30 million to 60 million people. The reason Libertarians do not make the national stage is because there is not enough support in individual states currently. Not because there is not enough national support.

No they didn't every Libertarian knows this, the only reason they were running was an attempt to spread the platform to try and secure ballot access. I think an unbiased look at the whole 'eating' thing is basically that, for conservatives, if you're 25% a conservative, then you can be on their team.

But as a liberal, if you're not 100% on board, you're 100% offboard.

You can have minor, or sometimes even major disagreements with a conservative and as long as you're not full blown radical 'liheral' to them, they won't care that much.

But you step even one toe out of line from the liberal side, and they're ready to cast you away from society and ruin your life.
