Do you trust auto driving cars?

49 y/o Elaine Herzberg was the woman killed in Arizona by a SELF DRIVING UBER CAR after it hit her while she was crossing the street with her bike!!

This is the first fatality involving a controversial fleet of automomous cars..

She was hit by the SUV at 10pm in Tempe when she was out walking her bike on the crosswalk where she was immediately rushed to hospitl but died of her injuries

Police say the SUV was in autonomous mode at the time of the crash and a vehicle operator was also behind the wheel. This is the first accident a pedestrian has been killed on a public road which has been praised as a safer alternative to a traditional car

Uber said the company is aware of this and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is offering his condolences to the family and reiterated they will be working authorities to find out what happened.

The ride share service has paused its self driving car operations in the major cities for the time being.

This isn't the first time however as in March, an auto Volvo SUV got into an accident with another vehicle that "failed to yield" while making a left turn. The vehicles collided causing the auto vehicle to roll on its side.

The only other known death was Tesla Driver Joshua Brown was killed while operating on auto pilot but that happened only after he ignored the repeated warnings to put his hands back on the wheel.

Dailymail uncovered a history with the victim who has been arrested for Drug and probation violations

Do you trust self driving cars?.

The person should be charged as if they were driving the vehicle. Just because the cruise control can take over, doesn't mean you can't still pay attention to your surroundings. The other self driving car hit someone that didn't yield at a stop sign I assume and the team's driver also wasn't paying attention. So two were pilot error and the other was someone who pulled put in front of a car and not paying attention to yield signs.

The raw numbers show that these autonomous vehicles are safer than humans on their own. That does not mean they are foolproof though, especially when it comes to other non-autonomous drivers on the road.

However the technology is still in its infancy, and at its current state needs a human behind the wheel remaining vigilant. That wont be the case forever though.

The other article mentions she was outside the crosswalk. Not that it necessarily absolves responsibility.

Are you kidding? It's Uber, there's going to be a massive cash settlement so the relatives won't push the matter.

I didn't say they wouldn't get a settlement lol just pointing out the flaws so far have been other people and not the AI.

I haven't watched the video but from what I've read it sounds like this adult didn't know how to cross the street. I think people need to stop being sympathetic to adults that don't know how to properly cross the street and find them at fault.

Everything I've seen said she walked out in front of a moving vehicle without right of way and there wasn't enough time to react.

People wouldn't even bat an eye at this story if it wasn't for the new technology. Now they are going to try and tear it down because of the actions of someone else.

well where i live people always have the right of way on the roads. The driver is always considered at fault if they hit a pedestrian. But in my opinion that's full of bullshit and leads to people crossing the road even in full traffic.
Anyhow now that I watched the video, she is 100% at fault.

Nope. I believe we take a lot of tech for granted and seem to 'forget' that tech can and probably will break.
