My problem is I rarely finish long RPG games. I think I made it to the third disc of FF9. I stopped in the prehistoric area on Chrono Trigger.

Actually it a port of the remastered PC version. The PlayStation 3 version is just the PS1 classic.

Imagine playing it in 1998 and compare it to other games from that time. That's it.

Some of the graphics are super dated, but the core is a fun rpg.

Other RPGs have done a lot of things in the 20 years after this one. So it may not blow your mind really. But at the time it was a big deal.

Don't overthink it or psyche yourself up or down too much. Just play through it and take things as they come. Ponder on the overall experience once you beat the game.

It's a solid game but if you didn't get into it in the 90's, it won't seem that amazing.

Since I'm old, I will argue I prefer FF VI (Snes 3) to FF VII.

But don't listen to anyone here, enjoy!

If you want to get 100% achievements in one playthrough though, look up skippable materia for the Materia Masters achievement so you don't have to restart the game all over again. As far as I know that's the only one you can miss.

Best FF by far, dont believe people who tell you 6 is.

It's a fun game with fun characters and a rad soundtrack/aesthetic. The plot isn't anything to write home about but it's fun to watch.

Just remember that Yuffie is the best, and if she's in your party you should check out the West-most continent asap.

The dialogue scenes and in town/cities graphics are the hardest to watch. Battle scenes and cutscenes still look good.

As for the game itself, I agree with others just play and see how you like it. While the start is a bit long and drawn out at least give it a chance long enough until you leave Midgar. That's when the game really starts to kick in.

Also this game has a lot, but not necessarily needed, missable items.

This was my first RPG when I got it in 1998. So I'm biased. But I think it's one of best games made to date.

Well, you're probably screwed then. I'd say the only thing that will motivate you through the midgame is that there's a lot of lingering plot threads and character mysteries that don't get wrapped up until the third act or endgame.

I personally feel like you have to farm for AP way too much early in the game for Aries to ever reach a potential because of the game's story. I've played this game countless times and have never once took the time to max out her potential. I don't think it's worth it. To me anyway.

I myself never used her past the Forgotten Capital. I found her character just kinda got watered down.

If I had to take a stab at it, I would say she never really had much life in her after that point.

Those are in all versions. It's called "keep your party under Fury status and belt out limit breaks like every 3 turns" mode :p

Expect one of the greatest game of all time. The only thing dated now in this game is the lego graphics. But other than that, the story, the gameplay, the music, and the characters are all excellent.
Truly a masterpiece.

Playing it now is actually better than if you had played it on release since you're not directly comparing it to games that just came out. Don't listen to folks that played it as their first rpg on it's release day. Other rpgs that came out in the west around the same time were Lufia 2, Suikoden and Wild Arms. All of which surpass FF7 in multiple things except cutscene graphics.

You can expect disappointment.

Could have got Suikoden and Suikoden 2.

After the first mission my mind was blown and I was addicted. Don't expect that same reaction since it was 20 years ago it came put. It's a solid game and my second favorite FF behind FF6.

Its the game that got me into JRPGs. I actually played FF X first, didnt really care for it. Decided to play 7 afterwards and fell in love with 4 - 9 and Tactics.
