Congrats man. Always been hard for me to gain weight too. I was like 105 pounds at 5'4" for the longest time. I'm up to about128 now. Trying to get to around 145.

5'9" here and 140 lb at 25. My system rejected everything when I was younger or I'd probably be taller.

Oh my, you weigh as much as me but I'm 5' 9". I've been working hard, hoping to reach 165 by the end of the year.

Still though, 10 lbs in 6 months is excellent if it's all lean mass. But if you were a complete beginner, it'll start to slow down a bit. Just keep at it and watch what you eat. As long as you're being sensible and making sure about half of your plate is protein, you'll pack on more lean mass as you train hard. Good luck!

Speaking from experience, there really isn't much a doctor can do unless there's actually something medically wrong with you (which usually isn't the case).

For the most part, all they can really do is tell you to eat more food/higher calorie food. And refer you to a nutritionist to help plan that out. But it's up to you to keep it up.

And let me tell you, healthy high calorie diets suck. It's just so much god damn food.

BMI is terrible measurement scale.

http://www.medicaldaily.com/body-mass-index-bmi-calculator-healthy-weight-obesity-372852

"However, this one-size-fits-all approach may be flawed, according to researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Published in the International Journal of Obesity, their study reveals how ineffective BMI is, as well as the number of people who may be inaccurately deemed overweight or obese. Doctors and patients may have to turn to alternative methods to accurately assess healthy weight ranges."

BMI is a decent indicator for skinny people though, it's people who weigh a lot where it is misleading since that could be muscle and not fat

You should really talk to a doctor. They can explain why BMI is not a great scale for measurement.

You're the one that's saying I ought to be heavier when you know nothing about me besides my height. So you're using BMI, right?
But I'll bite: I've been to a few doctors because of back problems and unsurprisingly none of them told me to indiscriminately gain weight. They told me to start training my muscles in order to improve my posture and balance/offset the load on my back. My knees are sorta bad too. I really don't need extra fat if I can help it.
