E middle ages/ post agricultural world.

Foragers only have to work on hunting, foraging like several hours a day, or a high risk big hunt for several days, but high return where they can feed a whole tribe for weeks.

They really worked less than the average farmer when humand started to settle down.

Foragers have better nutrition and less dependable on one specific type of food. If a disaster happen, like fire or disease, they will just move on, whereas a farmer will starve to death if a pandemic spread all over his farm killing the crops or animals.

Like, agricultural era is a shit long time suffering for the average people and the payoff (industrial and technological revolution) only happen in the last century or so.

There are still tribes that do. Several in the Amazon have done it that way, unchanged, for thousands of years.

Yah. Thankfully we live in a world where majority of people live better than their ancestors.

Like a farmer have mostly the same disadvantage that a forager have, but not the advantage.

Like no proper medicine, no proper plumbing/waste disposal system, etc.

The only advantage middle ages people have is against the threat of big animals/ predators because solid houses/city walls.

Even that, they trade safety from wolves and lions and shit for smaller creatures like bacterias and viruses. The average big city before plumbing is common are a concentrated human filth caked in the streets and a utopic breeding ground for disease.

At least you can stab a wolf with your spear or scare them with fire and noise making tools, you cannot shoo dysentery with spears and fire.

The history of humanity is the history of unintended consequences. How much progress in terms of being fulfilled with our lives have we really made since the time of our ancestors.
